Lionel Richie Breaks Silence on Brenda Harvey, Diane Alexander Scandal | E! News
Lionel Richie is breaking his silence about a decad’s old scandal. The singer opens up in a new memoir truly for the first time about the 1988 incident involving his first wife Brenda Harvey Richie and Diane Alexander, the star of his Dancing on the Ceiling music video whom he later wed. At the time, Brenda was arrested for confronting Diane when she discovered her and Lionel together inside a Beverly Hills apartment. In an excerpt of the forthcoming memoir obtained by E-News, the 76-year-old calls the incident the scandal of my century, adding, “What very few people knew was that Brenda and I were separated. I got a place at the beach and I was hiding out there trying to be alone, trying to decompress somehow because it was killing everyone.” According to the American Idol judge, he was driving into town one morning and happened to stop to see Diane. Lionel remembers the incident, saying, “It’s the most awful screaming match of my life, and it’s all in this small entryway. The question is, how to stop it? How do you physically move a tragedy that is exploding in front of you?” He says neighbors called the police, charges were brought, and then dropped. Brenda was initially booked on suspicion of corporal injury to his spouse, resisting arrest and battery after police said Lionel had told them he was kicked in the stomach area by his then wife during the confrontation. According to the LA Times, E-News has reached out to Brenda and Diane for comment and has not yet heard back. Lionel and Brenda, who adopted Nicole Richie together, officially divorced in 1993 after 18 years of marriage. The singer and Diane married and welcomed Miles and Sophia Richie together, but divorced in 2004. [Music]

If you were a sidechick and you get married to that person that you were messing with, what makes you think that it wont happen to you.
They never seem to speak about the scam the second wife was involved with ( injections and plastic surgery at the home and elsewhere). Also many of us remember he initially claimed nothing was happening with the second wife. To sell a book just lie. Whether you're separated or not you were still MARRIED!

Being separated and divorced are not the same. Wait until you are divorced to start another relationship, then no one can be upset. All this confirms is that he was cheating on her anyway.

He’s only talking about this now because he wants to profit off that book. Every adult born before 1995 knows about this story. When Lionel and Brenda were getting a divorce that man sat in that courtroom and claimed he didn’t have the money Brenda was asking for but he told Diane where he hid the money. Fast-forward to Diane and Lionel divorcing now he can’t hide his wealth from his preference and now she has his money, something the first wife should’ve had.
