Most tech billionaires seem to be doom prepping. Should we be worried?

    1. These articles always assume the position that the wealthy person is the originator of their ideas. In reality there is an industry of luxury sales oriented people targeting the super rich, with centuries of experience in surreptitiously manipulating them into overspending on silly products and projects.

They know climate change is real.

They know they’re the biggest cause of climate change.

They know they’re not gonna do anything about that.

I think it’s partly just another accessory/status symbol to them. Who’s got the best/fanciest death compound is the new infinity pool or seaview.

    4. It’s truly such an idiotic thing to prep your own little climate change bunker and stock it with, idk, 500 cans of tuna or something, because the idea that Mark Zuckerberg can subsist alone in his bunker, away from the rest of the world is absolutely ridiculous and speaks to the neoliberal brain rot these people have. Do they think they can live without the labour of millions of other people, who toil away every day to deliver food to their tables? Who is going to maintain the infrastructure that these bunkers rely on? Who’s going to clean their fucking bunkers? If the rest of us, the cheap labour that these people have made their billions off of, goes down in the event of climate collapse, they’re coming down with us

They’re building bunkers to keep the people that are in revolt out, not for climate change, they know they won’t truly be affected by climate change in their lifetime, hence the ridiculous amounts of data centers.

Stop using their products. Delete Meta Apps (Facebook, Instagram, threads). You are funding this man.

For them? No. They’ll be openly hunted during a total collapse. And it’s really easy to find your quarry when it never moves.

    8. They are prepping but at the same time doing everything to destroy our world: against democracy, against our ecosystems, against human rights…

By creating a climate of fear they are trying to curtail our rights and freedoms even further. Don’t fell for their fatalism and fight back.

    9. I would take it more seriously if these people didn’t prove time and time again that they are deeply stupid and have no idea what will happen either way. I mean, if the world has global economic collapse, good luck surviving in that bunker anyway lol

The vast majority of people are so fucking ignorant.  Just understand humanity has modeled and researched the shit out of this subject for over a hundred years.  We KNOW a massive die off is coming for humanity.  Exponential growth makes this as inevitable as the sun coming up tomorrow.  The bafflingly weird part is how this isn’t taught in schools and common knowledge.  Here’s some peer reviewed science for the doubters:

1992’s updated – Beyond the Limits to Growth-  https://donellameadows.org/archives/beyond-the-limits-to-growth/

The billionaires know that modern society has roughly 5 years left.  When the global economy can no longer grow there is going to be a massive die off due to food shortages. 11. I think they know we’re going to turn on their selfishness and there will be an upheaval of the ruling elites…so if they just wait it out maybe they’ll still get to keep all their stuff bc the layman will tucker out

    12. Who wants to live in a bunker for any extended period of time? The survival instinct combined with almost limitless resources of these people will just prolong their suffering. I guess that’s a silver lining.

    13. That’s because they have the luxury too. It doesn’t mean you should. It means you could, if you didn’t have to budget to survive/prosper/meet your objectives for the next 10-15 years.

This reminds me of Mountainhead, the movie. Did anyone watch it? Bunch of billionaires together losing their minds, deliberately putting the world on fire because they “believe” in their ideas.
These people will soon come to their senses that they can’t function without people. If we go they’re going down with us, at least eventually.

    15. It means they know exactly what they’ve done to the world, and what the world should be doing to them.

    16. I feel like it wouldn’t matter no? If they knew the end was coming (which they do), they aren’t gonna tell us. By the time they’re gone and stowed away it’ll likely be too late for any of the actual human beings left on Earth.

Not to be a doomer but climate change is going to come faster and harder than we all think so this is a dumb question to ask. Yes, we should be worried. They’re spending trillions on data centres that will accelerate the climate change crisis.

    18. Best part of the article:

      >I once met a former bodyguard of one billionaire with his own “bunker”, who told me his security team’s first priority, if this really did happen, would be to eliminate said boss and get in the bunker themselves. And he didn’t seem to be joking.
