Actor David Del Rio has been fired from the series following allegations that he sexually assaulted his co-star Leah Lewis. According to Deadline, the alleged assault occurred on September 26th on Paramount property. Del Rio was reportedly fired and escorted off the studio lot on October 2nd, the same day the incident was reported. His character, Billy Martinez, will be written off immediately as production pauses until November. Leah Lewis, best known for her role as Sarah Franklin on Matlock and as the star of Nancy Drew, addressed the situation briefly on Instagram. She wrote, quote, “Mom is here. We’re moving forward in love and strength. I’m in good hands.” She thanked fans for their support and emphasized strength as her main message. But just hours later, David Del Rio’s wife, Catherine, appeared to mock Lewis’s post, sharing the same caption alongside a red carpet photo of the actress and calling Lewis quote, “The most disturbing human being I have ever met.” Catherine’s posts were later deleted, but screenshots quickly circulated online, sparking debate over her comments amid the ongoing investigation. CBS confirmed Del Rio’s departure in a statement to Page 6, saying only that the actor had departed the series. The network declined to comment further. Neither Del Rio nor Lewis have issued additional public statements since the news broke. Other cast members, including Kathy Bates and Jason Ritter, have not commented publicly. Matlock season 2 is set to premiere on October 12th, though it remains unclear how the show will address Del Rio’s sudden exit. At this time, no charges have been filed and details of the alleged incident remain under review.
