During the October 9th episode of the Diary of a CEO podcast, the singer recalls the day he and fellow members Nile Horn, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Harry Styles got together to discuss ending the band. The room felt cold that day. I can remember that in particular. There was it was I’m trying to find the right metaphor for it, but it was it was something where these are all the same faces that I’ve seen every single day, but I’d never quite felt an energy like that in the room. There was like a there was there was this emptiness. And I think probably because we knew we all knew collectively where it was going. But it crushed me, man. It absolutely crushed me. I was I was devastated because it felt like, oh, is this the beginning of the end of the band? The group would eventually go on hiatus in 2016 with the split then becoming permanent later that same year with Louis sharing that he had a hard time mourning that chapter of his career ending. It wasn’t until after the event that I realized that I actually computed all these feelings, but it was like I was straight grieving for it. That was grieving the band. [Music]
