MTV is officially coming to an end 📺
Iconic music television channel MTV is shutting down five of its dedicated music channels globally by December 31st, 2025. MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live will cease broadcasting as Paramount Global shifts focus to digital platforms and streaming services amidst changing viewer habits and cost-cutting measures. This marks the end of an era for many as the channel that shaped the music and youth culture for more than 40 years.

Imagine the things we are watching now looking like this in 30 years….
the show is over, say goodbye
Omg of course Paramount is behind this 🙄
In the end, streaming killed the video star
I wouldn’t be like this today without Duran Duran, Soft Cell, The Human League, The Eurthymics, Madonna, and many more.
Also: I came of age when MTV would do chat room commentary over Nada Surf & Superdrag, or doing band Q&As with Filter, Courtney Love, etc, in the AOL MTV Arena. I was underage & my mom would threaten to unplug the modem on a twice-daily basis, so I got a gig that didn’t/couldn’t pay, but did provide internet access moderating those MTV chats, which helped lead to gainful employment later on.
What’s the worst that I can say?
It’s just airing Ridiculousness all day
So long and good night
*So long and good night*
Internet killed the video star
So…. does this mean they can stop airing Ridiculousness now?
It’s not MTV anymore. It’s just TV.
oh man, MTV really shaped me. and introduced me to some of my favorite artists. it was also my ESL teacher
MTV Unplugged was so formative 🥺
and I know it’s not music content, but I was just thinking how great it’d be if we had more celebrity claymation programming.
This is inaccurate. MTV the channel will still exist.
Not just the end of an era, but the end of a generation. A generation that grew up watching tv, and our primary source of music was mtv and vh1. Aw man, this just truly sucks.
remember when the music was one giant ad? i get having a couple to pay the people, but nothing is sacred anymore. it feels like an episode of futurama some times with those insane names.
I am so heartbroken even though I haven’t watched MTV in ages. I just remember being constantly glued to the channel at all hours as a kid.
Needs more Madonna— the Blonde Ambition backup dancers were a nice inclusion though!
The end of an era:(

I remember when David Bowie chastised them for not including black people on their channel before MJ and Prince managed to get too big to ignore.
Interesting how this slide show didn’t include Prince, MJ, Sade, Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Lyonel Ritchie, etc.
Think about all the young lives they’ve destroyed in the process. Maybe should have stuck to music videos and music news. Reality TV was such a… an event that I don’t believe they were able to save face. The shows were raunchy and broke barriers. But ultimately they exploited a lot of vulnerable teenagers and twenty somethings for money.Â
Ridiculousness has consumed and ruined MTV for over a decade now. Barely anyone wants to tune into MTV for fail/prank videos on constant repeat, they want music videos. Not surprised that the channel’s are finally ending. Paramount cares way more about its streaming service now.
And I’m happy Wild ‘N’ Out is no more. Nick Cannon is shameful and his views of Jewish people are damning.Â
But when will they play Ridiculousness with Rob Drydek?
