Taye Diggs’ favorite Broadway role | Page Six Radio #shorts

And I mean, you’ve been in so many of the like Broadway shows that are just kind of like timeless classics like Rent, Chicago, Rouge, Hedwig. If you I mean, do you have like I mean, it’s probably hard to pick a favorite, but which one do you feel has the most lasting that you like the most back to? Easily uh Hedwig. Really? Yeah. Hedwig. And the only reason I say that is because uh uh after Rent, you know, Hedwig was like my dream role and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. And I was very very proud of myself. Um, so many lines, so many songs. It’s basically a oneperson show. Yeah. Uh, you know, I think I was the first black person, the the black, I don’t know. But all of that just uh, you know, I was going through a divorce. You know, I was petrified, but then I told I forced myself to do it. And then just the way um, it changed my acting and how I looked at theater and improv and yeah, it just it just it really just changed who I was as a person. So, how did that role come to be? Did you audition for it? Were you approached for it? I was approached. Yeah. I I That’s another I’ve been very lucky in that with Mulan Rouge. It’s one of my favorite shows. I’ve seen it over, you know, like 10 times. And it was the same with um with Hedwig. I’d seen the movie and I’d seen different actors, you know, playing that role. And I never imagined myself doing it um because it was so difficult and so dense. And then I got the call and um and immediately I felt such a tightness in my stomach, but I knew I just said yes. And then I told my agents, don’t call me back cuz I’ll probably I’ll probably, you know, uh run away. So just take it, tell them yes, and just and and let and let’s go forward. And uh and I’m glad I did. [Music]
