Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but if we’re sufficiently stanning “Love Island,” we may want to reassess our opinion of our own intelligence. It’s not marketed as an intellectual stimulant.
If enough of the audience is dumb enough to support these types of people, perhaps it’s time to unplug and pick up a book. Fluff is fun and all, but we are, to varying degrees, the company we keep. Love Island might be making us stupider, possibly by design.
Reality TV brought us to this point
If a white man partners up with a fan fave black woman on that show, he’s forgiven of all past crimes. He could be a giant racist MAGA but no one would care. He’s even worshipped for years after.
If Nic had partnered up with Iris or Hannah, he’d already be forgotten days after the finale.
Nothing mysterious here. Tall, White men get away with everything because all their red flags are overlooked. Can’t be surprised about the lack of accountability when women are singing “6’5, in finance, blues eyes, trust fund”.
Austin is the one who really gets me.
He was reporting videos about Haitians eating dogs and cats before the show and was microaggressive to Amaya DURING the show and yet, he never gets any lashing for it and since he’s friends with Nic and Ola he even gets praised sometimes, it’s ridiculous
His face on the first TikTok explains it. Basic “attractive” white boy. Not a Love Island problem, just a problem in general. Especially in the internet era. Remember that one guy that literally killed someone in a DUI crash that had girls literally crying screaming throwing up to “free him” and saying he was “too hot for jail”? Had trending hashtags and fan edits on TikTok? Boy was a dime a dozen straight from the Wonder Bread factory but girls were losing their minds trying to say being in court and having this attention was punishment enough 🥺

Holy shit. I actually had no clue. This is so alarming, and you’re right the love island fans are silent about it. I spent a lot of time in that sub during airing, and while I knew about Austin being a Trump supporter, I didn’t see any mention of Nic’s politics.

I just assume from the outset that most people on shows like Love Island are kinda shit. The whole premise of Love Island is, “We took the dumbest, hottest 18-25 year olds we could find and made them hang out.” There wouldn’t be a show if they only cast normal, well adjusted people. Even the best contestants kinda suck.
You answered your own question: He’s a white guy who also happens to be conventionally attractive so he will (continue to) breeze through life. Any mistakes he’s made will be veiled under the “But he was/is just a boy” umbrella — the same vein that so many white, Republican men are utilizing nowadays to excuse their shitty behavior.

I genuinely don’t understand why we turn these bottom of the barrel, low IQ, low moral people into pseudo celebrities just because they are hot.
I can’t stand these shows, they are so insufferable and brain melting.
My mom loves to watch them BECAUSE the people are so stupid.
But I think it just really makes everyone more stupid consuming it.

But we can’t even get a good well written tv show past 8 episodes and they are trying to push AI and “made to listen while scrolling” content on us, it feels like a dumbing down of culture intentionally.
Nic is a rich white guy from florida … Idk why people are surprised. I have never trusted his ass and that’s part of the reason I can’t get behind the whole Nicolandria movement. I hope Olandria is protecting herself and questioning these things.
Almost all the men on this season were right wing and TERRIBLE. It genuinely made the show hard to watch. I’m not sure if that’s indicative of what men that age in America are mostly like these days or that’s just the men they chose to cast, but either way it was disturbing.

I partake in my share of terrible reality TV shows , looking at you latest season of Project Runway, but I’ve never been more glad to not know anything about this show or who’s on it.

I steered clear away from watching this show and I noticed that out of all the scandals that appeared on my feed it’s only been about the women in the show, meanwhile I’ve seen nothing about the men this is a first I’ve seen this
