St. Denis Medical: Go BTS With Wendi McLendon-Covey! (Exclusive)
Hey, ET. We’re here on the set of St. Dennis Medical, and I’m here to give you a tour of Joyce’s new birthing center. It’s done in the delicious colors of lemongrass and lavender. Don’t you just feel calm already? Ready to push out a baby? Come on in. We’ve got themed birthing suites. This one here is our Outback uh birthing suite, but I’m not going to show it to you, so I don’t know why I’m mentioning it. Here’s another one, Forest Fantasy, as you can see. But this is really the um jewel in the crown of the birthing center. It’s the under the sea room. If you’ve ever wanted to give birth under the sea, we’ve got you covered right here in the St. Dennis Birthing Center. Um, yeah. I guess these are all distractions from the immense amount of pain that birth gives you. I guess I’ve never had a baby, so I don’t know. Uh, if you want to get in a tub and do it there, there you go. All kinds of stupid little artifacts to, you know, make you feel like you’re on vacation. What could be uh more miraculous than uh than new life uh in in this hospital in the birthing suite will give us plenty of potential? I mean, I think there’s a lot of uh you know, a baby talent out there and we’re going to um we’re going to mind that. Hello. Hello. A lot has happened since you were gone. St. Dennis Medical is back and funnier than ever. What to watch for? Some reality TV guest stars. Ariana Maddox will make an appearance as a doctor and Love Island’s Jeremiah Brown will mark his acting debut in the hospital. I’m petrified about season two. I have not seen a single frame of the show. I’ve been told it’s funny, but I got to make that determination for myself. I decided to bring in a professional therapy horse, but there has been an unanticipated downside. How dare you, Matt? You got another code, Brown. I’m terrified every day. If I can’t meet the same standard that I set last year, I’m a failure. Well, you know, my philosophy in this industry has always been to the middle and fail forward. So, I will be keeping that mindset in this second season. Tell me everything I know. I sure did. Last season, we think we really watched Alex try to like figure out a work life balance and this season, she’s trying to maintain it. Guess how it goes. Not great. True. Yeah. shenanigans. Shenanigans. There are a lot of like weirder high production things that I think happen to the hospital. We get out of the hospital a little bit, which was very weird. It’s like soap operas when they go outside and you’re like, “What even is this anymore?” That’s how we how we feel. One of the story lines this season is Joyce’s complicated yet grotesque love life. So, we’re going to learn a lot about that and see, uh, how she handles things. So, um, yeah, I was surprised that that Joyce wants to get in and out of the saddle. Season 2 premieres Monday on NBC, but exactly how qualified is this cast? What, two seasons now? I I feel like I could do surgery. Yeah. um and have offered many people who have turned me down, but the cast and crew and everyone. Yeah, everyone’s everyone’s like, “Oh, not not right now.” I do believe that Josh could do surgery. Yes, I would I would tell him or maybe ask him if he takes my c-ay if he would take my appendix out. Yeah, you’re my captive. Guess I’ll have to lick my way out. What? I think playing Matt has made me uh lose knowledge about the medical field. I think uh no we really do not I think that the the medtecs that are here make sure that we say everything perfectly and then the second I say it it leaves my brain immediately and I replace it with 1200 Tik Tok videos. I you know I will tap into our lines that we learn here. Think of it as conversation had on a first date. I’m speaking for all men. Whatever comes out of our mouths we don’t own. So, it’s kind of like that. Talking smack about each other is like 95% of what we do here. This doctor thanked me the other day. He said he is a trauma care physician and he loved the show. I uh I have gone to the hospital a few times since we started doing this. Usually in this situation, I have a food poisoning scenario, weak stomach, poor constitution, and that is a not great place to get recognized when you’re sort of mid sick. People are like, “Hey, it’s you.” Luckily, fans in the medical community have been very affusive and, you know, they they’ve been saying really nice things. Now, sometimes I’ll see some, you know, snarky person with no profile picture, you know, saying, “Ah, that’s not accurate.” Well, I think that’s just an actor that didn’t get the job cuz everybody else who’s really in the medical field has said nice things. I was out for a walk the other day and I could tell I had a lady pass me and she said, “Hey, St. Dennis.” And I thought that was so sweet, you know. I said I said, “That’s high praise.” And I uh um was neither a compliment nor an insult. And that sort of neutral recognition is something that I strive for. The people here are complicated and needy and I love them. But we know the real reason people are flocking to this comedy. The fashion. The best wardrobe. You mean like Oh yeah. You No notes. The most comfortable wardrobe. Give me pajamas and sneakers. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t need to be outside the hospital. I’m good. I’m staying here. Give me any color as long as it’s navy. I’m almost always in blues and you’re in like pinks and lavenders a lot. Yeah, I’m in very cute jumpsuits. And you wear jumpsuits a lot, which is so cute. But I’m so thankful I’m not wearing a jumpsuit every day because and they take you so long to go to the bathroom. Every time I pee, you know what? Just totally naked. Yeah. At work. Also, check it out. I have a little zipper right here. Whoa. My shirt has a teeny tiny little zipper. That’s how he urinates that no one knows about. And uh that’s kind of one of Matt’s secret stuff in there. Jokes aside, Allison gave us a wardrobe tour that really embodies hospital chic. Hi, ET. Welcome to the costumes trailer for St. Dennis Medical. I’m here with Elix, who is our costume designer. We’re going to show you around a little bit in our trailer. Because we do scrubs, we try to make it very real and grounded in reality. So, they wear the same color scrubs and then we mix it up with different character pieces. Like Serena has lots of fun prints underneath her scrubs. Allison has lots of fun prints and um cardigan sweaters for her scrubs. Josh is always in navy. He’s got a good gig because he’s in the same I mean I guess these underwear are different, but we won’t talk about that. And then there’s some surprises coming up where you get to wear raspberry. Why would we be in raspberry? Tune in to find out. We have multiples of everything. Especially if we’re doing a scene where there’s going to be like blood that gets on someone or it’s going to be rainy or wet or whatever, but we also just have to have them in case anybody like spills coffee on themselves. Mecky for Wendy, for Joyce, it’s her it’s her brooches. She always has a different brooch on her suits. Um, she has a lot of interesting hobbies Joyce does and but she’s also wants to be very office appropriate. So, we feel like the brooch adds the highlighting of that part of her personality. This one was my favorite. I’m going to teach you all how to defend yourself. Put your keys in between your knuckles. Boom. Keys to the groin. I just have a key fob. Well, what about some luxury hotel keys? Wendy’s already petitioning for her next gig. I think you need me on White Lotus. Maybe a character that communes with sharks. I’ve always wanted to play like a a woman that’s got a lot of swagger, like a Tony Soprano type thing. So, maybe a female mob boss on the White Lotus. I’m not sure that that uh has any place on the White Lotus, but hey, Mike White. Hi.
