Emily Simpson tells ‘Virtual Reali-Tea’ about ‘Wife Swap’ experience & aftershock of ‘RHOC’ finale

As far as the evidence, I’m just saying the evidence part of it, like what Gretchen has and and Tamara has, I I don’t know. Those are two people that have a very toxic relationship that they’ve had for years and years virtual reality. Emily Simpson, Danny and I are so excited to catch up with you. What an amazing episode of Wife Swap. It seemed like you had quite the time. kind of things got a little dirty. Like the pig was amazing. You It seems like overall this was a great experience, right? Like you’re glad you did it. Oh, absolutely. Um you know, going into it, I it was hard going into it because of the timing. I I finished Housewives and we were in Amsterdam on a girls trip and then I got home and I was only home a couple days before we started Y swap. So, you know, I would say I was just I was, you know, I was regretting my life choices at that point. I was I was just tired. So, but I I am so glad that I did it. And I’m I’m glad the timing worked. I’d rather have just done it all at one time. I was already in filming mode, so might as well just keep going. Also, as people watching y’all currently on the Orange County trip, I feel after that, you probably enjoyed going across the country to get away from all those ladies for a little bit. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. I had no problem leaving them behind. Yeah. And I do love cuz I’m a Jersey boy. I love that they sent you to New Jersey. I though would not have thrived as well as you did with all of that farm life. I love that we got to see OG Emily Simpson back in the Ohio roots. How was kind of did did that shock you how much you had to get in the literal mud for this? Um, well, you know, honestly, I I never thought Well, first when I heard Jersey, I would have never thought farm animals, right? So, I just thought I just pictured a lot of I don’t know, leopard or something. I don’t know. I didn’t picture farm animals at all. So, you know, when we pull up outside this big beautiful home and then I I still didn’t realize that there were animals because you can’t see any of them. They’re, you know, in the backyard. And I just remember walking into the house thinking, I hope that they have a dog because I love dogs so much. And then when I saw that pig, I nearly passed out. I was like, you have got to be kidding me. And he’s in the house. Like, he was just wandering around the kitchen. Yeah. Yeah. And then looking into the backyard and seeing the chickens and the horses and the goats and like all I loved it. It just it made me feel like I was at home again, you know? That’s how I grew up like that. We love that you loved it. But I need to know your thoughts on Callie walking into your house and lowkey dragging it, saying it had no personality and reminded her of Pottery Barn. That was a bit savage. She won Housewives. Um, you know, I mean, I get it. I would agree with that. We’ve been remodeling my house for like the past three years, so it doesn’t have any personality. I mean, I’ve basically just remodeled everything. Yeah, first impressions. First impressions of homes are hard. I do love too that we also got to watch Callie link up with someone that we love and we know you love, Gina. And I feel like Gina kind of acted as like a good therapist for her. How was watching her scene and with what you learned from her in that scene reflect what you think about her uh life and her house with her marriage? I think sitting across from Gina is the best person to sit across from because she is so warm and she is so kind and I I think even if you don’t know her, you you start to feel immediately. So, I think that was such a good link up between the two of them. And I know she felt comfortable with Gina and sharing with her. So, you know, that was great. And then being able to just, you know, take that and kind of apply it, you know, when she gets home is nice. Gina gave her good advice, you know, and telling her to, you know, why don’t you start your own business and, you know, be your own person, you know, and Gina’s the best person to say that. Look at what she’s been able to accomplish. Yeah. No. Yeah. Watch that. I was I almost I was like shouting through the TV. I was like, “Sir, get off the laptop and start helping out.” But I’m glad I feel like you kind of ignited or you cuz for the first half of the episode, I kind of was like, “Oh, he’s just lazy.” And then when you after you and him had his date the date night, you kind of got more to the core of him being like you don’t feel appreciated and you don’t really know who you are in this house fully. How was kind of realizing that you were able to like open him up that way? You know, I actually the date night for me even though it was like so awkward cuz clearly we’re married to other people. So then to like walk into like this romantic dining room with like Yes. I was like, “This is so weird.” And then I could tell he was so nervous, too. And then, you know, we had a glass of champagne and I feel like, you know, we kind of calmed down a little. But then, you know, it was nice because I feel like I really got to crack that tough, you know, kind of exterior of him that that, you know, man that doesn’t want to share emotions or feelings or anything, but I feel like he really opened up and I I understood where he was coming from. you know, there I didn’t feel like he felt as if there was any appreciation for his contributions. And I know his contributions aren’t putting the kids to bed or or making lunches or things like that, but he contributes in other ways. I mean, he’s the bread winner. And this life that she has that she wanted is because of him. And I think he works really hard to give her that life. And I just felt I I mean I felt badly for him because I felt like there wasn’t any appreciation for the hard work that he does do to provide such an amazing life for you know his wife and kids. It feels really full circle to be chatting with you Emily on the day of the Orange County finale because we chatted with you earlier in the season and you said this finale was so shocking and confusing and like nothing we had ever seen before. And yeah, I mean you’re right. I I would have never thought that it would have been about Gretchen and those old posts and the nature of those posts. And what I will say is when you and Gina originally learned of the posts as two people in the LGBTQIA+ community, I was very I was it was just really nice to see how upset you and Gina got. And it seems like you two are on the the right side of history there. What was it like kind of going through that process and figuring out if Gretchen was truly behind them or not? You know, that was really difficult because I’ve known Gretchen for like 10 years and we we have mutual friends and I had never heard no one there never and Orange County is small, you know, that I mean, everybody knows everybody. You run into each other at the same events and stuff. And there had never been any rumbling or or or gossip or anything about her. And so it was it was hard for me. It made me sad because I thought this is someone that I’ve known for 10 years that I’ve been friends with that I’ve sat across from at dinners and I I don’t want to think that of her cuz I’ve never known that. But if this is true, then that is it’s so repulsive to me and so vile that like that isn’t someone that I would want to associate with or or be friends with. And so it was such a difficult position for us to be in. It was just a lot. It was a lot to to try to analyze and decipher and figure out. But see, this is why you you are legally brunette because you need all of the evidence, all of the situation going on. And it seems because they also we saw the um trailer for what’s to come for part one of the reunion. It seems that Gretchen, it almost seems like Gretchen and Tamara are on trial against one another with Gretchen saying this was maybe a setup by Tamara. Yeah. And you know, she has some forensics done, you know, and I I mean, someone comes to the reunion and they they have, you know, a binder of information. I mean, I don’t get to look at that. I’m not reading it. I can’t see what it says. I mean, she has it in her hand and she’s like, “Look at this.” You know, and I get it. She’s trying to do everything possible to clear her name and to, you know, figure out what’s going on. It’s just it’s it’s hard for me because it’s like I want a smoking gun. I want like clear and convincing evidence. I want something that’s like so black and white that your only takeaway is yes or no. And I I still feel like it’s maybe it was this, maybe it was this, I don’t know. Oh, that’s so frustrating. So then how would you describe the current state of your friendship with Gretchen if you kind of don’t know who she really is? Well, you know, I feel like at the reunion she spoke really well and I think she spoke to it very well and um you know, I don’t want to give too much away because I want everyone to be able to watch it, but I I do feel as if the things that she said at the reunion are things that she probably should have said in Amsterdam at the dinner. And I think that’s another reason why we were why our takeaway was also difficult with her because, you know, I expected a different reaction that night at dinner. like I would have been so irate that someone was putting that out there and making me into something I wasn’t and it was kind of her lack of emotion and lack of response that was like very confusing for us. So, you know, that that was hard that was a difficult takeaway, but I feel as if at the reunion I think she spoke to it much better and so there’s more clarity there. As far as the evidence, I’m just saying the evidence part of it like what Gretchen has and and Tamara has, I I don’t know. Those are two people that have a very toxic relationship that they’ve had for years and years. And you know, I I I don’t know if, like I said, I don’t know if there’s like a smoking gun, which is what I would like, but you know, at the end of the day, I’ve known Gretchen for years. I don’t think that that she’s that type of person. I don’t think she feels that in her heart. And you know, if the if if those screenshots were manipulated in any way, that’s just truly evil. Speaking of because the reunion, there is so much for Orange County fans to look forward to for answers and clarity and a reunion in a lot of way because this I feel like this is maybe the first time at a reunion someone who wasn’t on the show for since halfway through comes back to really reunite with all the ladies. I think I saw Katie saying on social media she hopes to get to a good place with you all again and that there could be a road for that. We see her really buddying up with Tamara now, which kind of surprised me because they didn’t leave in perfect energy on the show, but I’m curious where you feel her place in the group could be if there is one moving forward. Um, I don’t think that she left the reunion like reuniting with any of us at all. I think she went in having the expectation that all of us are supposed to apologize to her, but I don’t feel as if that was reciprocated in any way because I do feel like there are a lot of things that she should also apologize for. She’s made it a mission to defame all of us offline and to perpetuate false stories about us. I mean, there’s a lot of things and there were a lot of things that we didn’t bring up because we just didn’t want to bring them up, but we we we’re aware and we know about it. And, you know, it’s that it’s hard to forge a path forward with someone when they didn’t take the time or effort to try to build any type of friendship from the get-go. So, I I don’t know. And as far as her and Tamara, I mean, if that’s not the fakest friendship I’ve ever seen, I I can’t even call that a friendship. What is that? I mean, Tamara’s the one who brought up all of the things that that Katie was doing offline. Like she’s the one that brought up the blogger in the beginning. She’s the one that brought up the Kiki Monique thing. She’s the one that brought up that she recorded Shannon at the promo shots. I mean, Tamara’s the one that put everything out there. So, if Katie wants to be pissed at anyone, I mean, Tamara should be number one on her list, not the rest of us. So, I mean, that doesn’t even make any sense. I mean, that’s not even logical. So, I don’t even know what that is. Emily, it’s almost like you have a law degree or something. Like, the way the way you explain stuff, it just you you have such a way with words. Obviously, you’re sitting right there in front of the Legally Brunette sign, which you uh the podcast that you co-host with your beautiful husband Shane. What do you love most about doing that show with him? You know, I’ll tell you um for me, I take that’s such a passion project for me because I loved law school. Like, that was one of my favorite times. I I’m such a nerd. I love reading. I love being analytical. I love cases. I love true crime. And so it’s a way for me to take all the things that I love that I’m really passionate about and put it into a podcast that is entertaining. So I do so much research for it and it it just makes me feel like I’m in law school again, you know? I’m like, what case are we going to research this week? And it’s nice. It’s like being able to use those skills that I haven’t used for a while. So I I really really enjoy it and I think people really enjoy it. get such great feedback on the podcast and I think it’s because it’s not only just true crime and a story, but we also try to go into legal analysis and dig deeper and talk about things and also you get like the fun banter between two people that have been married for 17 years. So, I think it has more of a like a warm feeling where you’re just like sitting around a table talking to Shane and me at dinner about some interesting case that’s you know that everybody wants to talk about. I love that. And I love that we get to see you guys, your dynamic, not just on Orange County, but Legally Brunette and now on Weiss Swap. And you did end the episode saying that maybe in a year you would be down to Wife Swap again. I would. I would. Absolutely. I feel like, you know, it was such an amazing experience and I I only took good away from it. You know, I learned a lot about myself. I learned a lot about how much Shane does that I was telling you before. Like to me, that’s just normal. So, I don’t even I I know that there’s a lack of recognition in how much he does. You know, Eric really opened up my eyes to the fact that Shane does so much because he does so little. But I also felt like Eric was endearing and that he wants to change. I think he I felt like he wants to be a better husband and he wants to be a better dad. I just feel like he just didn’t know how to do it, you know? What do you think if Heather Dubra was plopped in that uh pig farm with the horses and everything having to do manure? How do you think she would have? I I tell you what, I would pay money to see that. And her Chanel boots. That would be amazing. That would be amazing. Now, obviously, Emily, after your episode of Wife Swap, we got the the grand finale with Dr. Wendy Oafo and and Eddie Ofo. In your legal opinion, do you have any thoughts and feelings about what they’re going through? Um, you know, I know Wendy and I I think she’s lovely. I think she’s such she was always been so kind to me anytime I’ve met her. Um, I did kind of dig into their case and read about it. It doesn’t look great. Um, I’ll just say that I do hope that she has some kind of solid defense. I know that there was I know I read some things about they were saying that maybe the search was illegal. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens with that. I mean, I definitely follow it because it’s legal. But I I would say it doesn’t look great. Seems like they have a lot of evidence against them that doesn’t look amazing. But Emily, this episode was so much fun. I need you to do another episode of Life Wife Swap because watching you and your family just kind of getting that more quality time and everything was such a treat. And we can’t wait to see you at Bravo Con, too. Yeah, we’re so pumped. You know what else I was thinking? And maybe you guys can plant this in somebody’s ear, but I feel like we need some kind of reunion. Oh, yeah. That would be sick. I would love that. And I mean, two of the families are in Jersey, so I’m team everyone just come to Jersey. There you go. I mean, I would love that because I feel like, you know, the last time I saw Callie was at my house and, you know, it was emotional and then she’s taking that information and going and she’s going to go meet with Eric and it’s like I just want a followup. I want to know where they, you know, I mean, I do talk to Cali. We text and stuff, but I I feel like the viewers would want to know like what happened since then. A little catch up. That’d be really fun. Yeah, cuz I love I know. I love that they ended it with like I think she DM’d you that they did like a lunch at the practice and everything. That’s so sweet. Okay, we’ll put it out there. We’ll manifesty manifest it. All right, thank you so much. Okay, thanks guys. Great seeing you.
