Cleto Escobedo, Jimmy Kimmel Live! Band Leader, Dead at 59 | E! News

Jimmy Kimmel is grieving a personal and professional loss. The late night host announces on social media that the band leader for Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cleto Escobado III, passed away November 11th. Jimmy writes in a tribute on Instagram, “Early this morning, we lost a great friend, father, son, musician, and man, my longtime band leader, Cleo Escobedo III. To say that we are heartbroken is an understatement.” He adds, “Clato and I have been inseparable since I was 9 years old. The fact that we got to work together every day is a dream neither of us could ever have imagined would come true.” Jimmy concludes his heartfelt message with, “Cherish your friends, and please keep Cleto’s wife, children, and parents in your prayers.” 5 days earlier, the November 6th taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live was postponed while the host dealt with a personal matter. The ABC series, which previously faced a temporary suspension in September, returned November 10th, though the TV host did not address the last minute scheduling change. In addition to Cleo’s late night duties, the musician also toured with the likes of Paula Abdul, Mark Anthony, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Jimmy previously described Cleto as a child prodigy. The comedian did not share a cause of death for his friend and colleague. Cleo was 59 years old. [Music]
