Grey’s Anatomy Star James Pickens Jr. Shares Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

    James Pickkins Jr. reveals he’s been diagnosed with cancer. The actor who’s best known for his starring role on Grey’s Anatomy opens up about going from TV doctor to real life cancer patient in a recent interview with Black Health Matters, telling the outlet, “It’s not the kind of news anyone wants to hear, but to be honest, prostate cancer has run through my family. My father had it. He had a lot of brothers. Several of them had it. I would have been surprised if I hadn’t gotten it. This news for the 71-year-old who shares he since undergone surgery to treat the cancer comes as his on-screen character Dr. Richard Weber is facing a similar health scare on the longrunning ABC medical drama with viewers learning during the November 13th mid-season finale that the surgeon has been diagnosed with cancer. So, while audiences will have to wait and see how Richard’s health journey plays out when Grace returns next year, James says for his real life cancer battle, he’s hopeful. Explaining, “We caught it really early. I’ve got a 90-year-old first cousin who’s still alive. Actually, he had it. His son has it. A couple of his brothers had it. No one, as far as I know, has succumbed to it. [Music] [Music]
