Mischa Barton reacts to Adam Brody’s ‘Hot Rabbi,’ solving crimes in ‘Murder at the Embassy,’ more

I loved the movie. First of all, I was just telling um my technical director in here with me that I love Who Done It and I caught on to this one really late, which surprised me because I thought I would immediately pick up on who it was. It was so good. Really? Yeah. Yeah. Okay, good. I was actually surprised, but Okay. Okay. Of course, we have to start with Miranda Green is back. What was it like for you to return to that private eye life? Oh my god, it was so great. I love this character so much. She really has a place in my heart. Anybody close to me knows how much I love who donutets as well and I love like Pluto things like for my birthday we did like it’s always something like that. I’m obsessed with Agatha Christie all of it. So this is kind of like the perfect role for me because it’s a period piece which I love. You know I love this era and she’s just a strong cool woman and you know I I love her as a person so it’s a great character to get to play. I love Downtown Abbey and it was also giving me Downtown Abbey vibes like the period space and the the collection of the cast. It was so fun. I mean, you kind of just touched on this, but you’ve dabbled in so many genres, scripted shows, Broadway horror. What really piqued your interest about doing murder mystery or like a who done it like this? Well, yeah. I I just I love murder mysteries. I think everybody does, but I do to an insane extent and especially Agatha Christie. I grew up in a, you know, a household where we watched a lot of that and um and yeah, it’s just something about the actors I get to work with in this series are always so great and to see what they bring to the table and the fact that we actually get to shoot in these places like you know we went to Cairo for this one. We were in Egypt, it felt really special. So, it was really practical, you know, and like it’s not all CGI and so the fact that a lot of it is real and we’re really on the Nile and we really have these amazing cast and crew around make a big difference and so it it is special. Absolutely. What do you think for fans that saw the first one, what are some differences but yet still similarities for the second one and when they watch it? Well, I think they’re getting better and I think, you know, like to be be honest because the first one was like, you know, it was we were just getting into it and it was just like kind of like getting to know each other. So, on this one, we really knew what we were doing and on the next one I will know even more, thank God. But I just I think um it it is it is it is a special character to get to play and it’s a lucky lead to have and um I like the way that everybody flows together and the way that we get to run lines on set and like cuz it’s an ensemble cast the way that we get to like flow together is kind of cool and even though the cast changes a little bit or a lot pretty much each time it’s still we get great actors and it’s really a nice experience for me. So, yeah, that’s so fun. And I loved the beginning with the dog. I feel like her character also like at least too bad we had to switch the dog. I was like, did we get the same blunder back? I know. Shh, don’t tell anybody. But it’s not the same blunder. He didn’t come from um America this time. But it uh that I love the dog relationship, too. And I I agree. I think it’s a lovely warm addition to her character that she’s so obsessed with her dog. Yeah, it’s so cute. And I love seeing her really grow, too. I feel like at the beginning of the film, there was some, you know, oh, she’s really just getting into this more herself now. And then by the end of it, it was like, no, this is exactly what happened. I know. There was such an element of girl power that I really felt throughout it. I loved when she stood up to the head of security and she was like, I know what I’m doing here. This is this is my thing. And I’m curious for you in real life, there are so many lead male detectives. There’s movies like Knives Out, like you mentioned the Agatha Christie series with Murder on the Nile. What was it like for you to be able to take on this sort of male dominant role that a female is now stepping into to get to be that type of detective? Super lucky. I feel really lucky. I mean, I again, that’s why I’m so drawn to these characters and I always want to carve out the time to play this character, Miranda, specifically because um she she is a bit of a rarity and you know, unless you like for strong female like dramadriven pieces, you either have to go like really gritty and modern or like you know, you don’t always get this type of a character. And it is incredibly fun to play and um I I know that it would usually go to a a man and and so it’s it is it’s exciting to be able to play her. She is and you’re right. I think the evolution of her figuring out little by little that she belongs in this place and that she can do it and that she takes control of the situation is cool. So by the next one we can see her be even stronger and more, you know, more convinced of what she’s doing. Although she does have this sort of aloof quality where she somehow seems to bumble into things without quite realizing it. But I think that’s another nice thing about her character too that I want to keep like you know that she’s you know got that kind of she uses that to her as well. Yeah, she’s totally using that to her advantage. I love it. I also love the period piece aspect of it. And I would be remiss not to ask about the fashion and the style and getting to really have those like sharper outfits that give a little more of that um androgynous masculine flare, but then she has her little accessories and stuff like that. And everybody on the cast has a really cool style. I guess what was it like being able to really step in back in time? Yeah, it was great. I I love anything period and I love all vintage and all real period pieces and it was important that she as a detect like it it’s singular in her role that you can kind of get away with the pants suits and stuff and that kind of vibe and really feed into the Agatha Christie vibe of it all even though it’s not an Agatha Christie obviously but being on the Nile and being in that weather and actually being out doing these things you realize she does have to sort of have more of an edge to her and kind of dress like that. that’s important to the character. Um, she but yeah, it’s so cool to see the other girls in these like beautiful dresses and delicate, you know, beautiful dresses as well. So, it’s fun for all of us. I know. I love time period pieces like that. For I really loved, as I’ve been saying, the element of that like female empowerment. What do you hope that maybe younger girls take away from getting to watch these? Because I know myself growing up, I loved mysteries. I loved Harriet the Spy. I loved all of the different shows where I could watch a female detective. So, what is that, you know, what do you think that young girls could learn from it? Well, hopefully they can see a woman in a strong position and that they it’ll be exciting for them. I agree. Things like Harriet the Spy were so fun when we were young and it’s fun to get to see characters like that. So, then you can start thinking like that that like I can be in an authoritative position and and um yeah, it’s exciting. I like I like strong female characters, too. So, you’re right. It’s it’s it’s a nice thing to get to play. Me, too. It’s so fun. Um, my style director is a huge fan, so I was telling her she absolutely has to watch this. She was talking about Marissa’s fashion on the OC, and she was like, “Is there anything that she has an all-time favorite outfit from the OC that she remembers, or is there like any pieces that you kept when you were on set from the OC?” Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I did. I think we might all agree that Marissa’s biggest uh you know claim to fame is the amount of Chanel she had and how like Carl was giving us actual Chanel and really beautiful pieces at the time. So yes, I have that stuff and like the main one is that dress that she wears at I think it’s the Christmas party which was like it came straight off the runway. It’s like a brown with cream like ruffle like it was such a beautiful dress and I remember when it showed up from Paris like we were just like floored and I was like wow I can’t believe that’s really here. So I mean a lot of those things like the her bags and that dress in particular and then I don’t know there’s some other iconic 2000 stuff that I don’t think we’d wear now but like you know that’s just very funny to look back on. But um it’s all starting to come back though. I love Jenz’s nostalgia for that. As being in my mid-30s, I’m like, I love that. Please bring it back. Yeah. I mean, yeah. If you love it, you love it. Like, go for it. I don’t think we need the like 20 belts, but like Yeah, the rest of it’s quite fun. Yeah, that’s fair. That’s Sometimes you just want to be in a tube top. I know. I know. Okay. Well, we can get our own modern age 30s style pants suit. We can channel our own Miranda. Um, I know I don’t have much time left with you. I just want one more quick question for you. Everybody’s raving about Adam Brody’s hot rabbi. Do you have any reaction to his new series and people I think it’s so funny to see like the Chris Mika storyline in the OC and now he’s doing this hot rabbi in so I haven’t seen the new season. I saw most of the first season but yes I think it’s the perfect role for him. I mean he was born to play this role. It’s perfect and I totally get everybody’s obsession with it. Um, I can’t wait to see the new season when I’m not working. And uh, it just came out, right? Like it did. Yeah. Like maybe a week or so ago, but of course it’s like resurging the love for the hot rabbi. He’s probably like, “Okay, I’m sick of being hearing people call me that.” But it’s so funny. That’s funny. I mean, more power to him. He is perfect for that role. And uh, I can’t wait. I can’t wait to run into him and tell him how much I love it cuz it is it is great for him. It’s the perfect combination. It must feel like, you know, like a brother or sister situation when you’re like, “Oh my gosh, that was so long ago that we’re doing the OC and now people are bringing back stuff about the hot rabbi.” But for this movie, we’re super excited for you and we appreciate the time. I loved it. I’ve been telling everybody to watch it because I’m like, “You’re never going to believe who did it. I can’t believe the ambassador and all that.” I’m like, “Wait, what?” So good. Okay, great. Love it. Thank you. Thank you so much. Have a great rest of your day.
