What Hamnet Taught Paul Mescal About Love in His Own Life | E! News
[Music] He’s got more inside of him than any man I’ve ever met. Who are you looking for? William Shakespeare. We apply our knowledge of our of these these concepts. Love, creation, loss, grief. They’re they’re all kind of rooted in our own in our own lives or maybe our theories about these things. But the there’s also a very specific quality to how Anas and Will love that I just fascinated by. I think they’re like relentlessly kind of curious about each other and they need the other half like Will needs Anas to complete him because I feel like he’s rudderless without her. Like we see him kind of he’s a Latin shooter before he meets her and then he becomes the husband and then Will and then he becomes William Shakespeare because of this connection. And I think if the film’s taught me anything, it’s taught me many things. It’s like there’s no s you can’t become and it’s not about becoming great is in the great William Shakespeare. It’s like you can’t become a great version of yourself without I think immense support from the people around you. You’ve spoken about it earlier to say this. I think as a soci society we’ve become like individualized and we’ve to carve out our own path and actually it’s a hell of a lot more enjoyable and more exciting than to to do that in um contact with people and and and with a real desire to love and be loved. Mama, they may be gone. Mama, my boy. I wasn’t a mother when I started filming this, but I I know the capacity women have. It’s an intense wild ride of the heart, but the most beautiful one for, you know, I’ve found in the last few months. Um, and one of the best things a girlfriend of me of mine said to me before I became a mother was was, “Don’t forget that you’re also a new thing.” And to the most incredible thing about having a child is that it reminds you of awe but even within that awe there is vulnerability and there’s a new relationship to the world and um and I think that’s also true for this story you know anus and will create great life but there’s also death and even death is a kind of rebirth in self.
