Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller walk red carpet at premiere of ‘Eternity’ in NYC

[Music] Eternity is described as a fantasy romantic comedy. The film from A24 is set in an afterlife where souls have one week to decide where to spend eternity. It stars Elizabeth Olsen as a woman who must choose who she wants to spend eternity with. the man she spent her life with played by Miles Teller or her first love who died young and has waited decades for her to arrive played by Callum Turner. It’s two different times in a woman’s life and I think we do kind of retreat back to who we are, where we left off with someone. And so there’s that dynamic uh when she was still in her 20s and then there’s the woman who has spent 65 years with the same man that might the the intimacy there is more comfort and deflated exhausted energy that allows for sweet bickering. Ordinary love as we call it. It’s kind of just that everyday older couple you might see in the supermarket you don’t think twice about but you know they’ve spent you know a lot of them married like 60s something years like my grandparents. Eternity also stars John Early and Academy Award winner Davine Joy Randolph. They play afterlife coordinators assigned to Olsen’s and Teller’s characters who must help them choose their eternity. Randolph says the experience of working with her co-stars and how well the ensemble came together underscores how important casting is for a character-driven film. You could feel initially that it was just very strong connection. We just jelled. And I think for a project like this, you have to have that because it’s really about the connections and the interactions more than anything else. The cast is extraordinary. I got I did get my dream cast, but I think you you can get the people you want and then you have all this kind of anxiety that they won’t get on and they won’t get chemistry. And once we got them together, they were just like children. There were so there was had so much fun and there was a real electricity between them. I mean, we just had a great time. It was it’s a gift of a script for a lot of play. And we had a good time. We had a lot of some there was some improvising. It’s fun to do a screw ball comedy. Cast is killer. I got very lucky. Um, Lizzy, Callum, Devon, John. Yeah, it was really, it was the most fun I’ve ever had. Silva, Eternity balances humor in the vein of a classic romcom with deeper themes of love, death, choice, and identity. What’s been lovely after the screenings is people coming over and talking about how it’s made them think about their parents or grandparents or their own spouse and maybe appreciating them more. So, if people reflect on their own lives and what makes them happy, that’d be quite nice. But first, you just want them to laugh. I think it’s just a very um unique and authentic way of approaching some heavy philosophical ideas. There’s something for everyone to think about and I just hope that people realize that life isn’t that serious and to have fun and that like people are going to come and go out of your life and you should embrace that and and enjoy that. I think it’s wonderful that there’s no grand gestures or gimmicks in this film. It just really deals with the I kind of know just kind of the day-to-day things, a collection of everyday moments that ends up becoming, you know, a really great love story. I think you’re lucky if you just walk away and it makes you want to if people want to continue talking about it, thinking about it, if it makes them have new conversations, I mean, that’s that’s a win. But largely, I just hope it’s entertaining and makes it makes for a joyful experience for the audience. [Music]
