Why Peta Murgatroyd, Maks Chmerkovskiy Call DWTS a Popularity Contest | E! News

Robert and Whitney. I mean, the show has always been so popular, but just this new wave of popularity with the Tik Toks and the video that spawns a video that spawns the the next reaction video. Has that surprised you guys? For me, a little bit. I not in a bad way. Like, oh, it it’s more like, wow, holy moly, this is exploding. like one Tik Tok can just go everywhere and then people are talking about it and making more and it’s just I think that it was an incredible marriage of by again you got to give flowers to Mr. Conor Green, he came back and the show started to pick up speed. And so it was the marriage of what’s in now uh Tik Tok with a product that’s on, you know, a juggernaut on television and Tik Tok is based on dance. So why not marry the two and then see both growth. They also get social media influencers to be celebrities. And now the celebrity Exactly. So then that just blows it up even more. So yeah, it’s very smart. There’s a big debate online whether or not the Mirrorball trophy should be given to most improved versus the voting system right now. What do you guys think? It’s always been how it’s been popularity contest. So, um, the best answer doesn’t always win. You know, I’ve won with two non-dancers. People that have had zero experience. So, the show is the show. People are going to vote for who they love, right? I agree. But it’s also like again, let’s say Dancing with the Stars never existed. Let’s say that it just came out today. It would have been a massive hit. People forgetting that Dancing with Stars has every element of the biggest show on television in in in terms of it’s the only show still. I cannot believe I’m saying this 20 years later. It’s still the only show that you can watch with like four generations. That’s so true. And each will find something interesting in it. Now, your guys, if they wanted to follow in your footsteps and take up dance, do we support it? Do we want it? What do you guys think? have some rhythm in their body already. Yeah, our 8-year-old has a has a partner right now and he’s taking lessons and yeah, it’s really cute. What age did he start? He Oh, he’s he was in dance at like 3 years old, but that was just, you know, moving on the spot type of thing and it was just fun like once a week, but now he’s, you know, now it’s pasadobe time. Three days a week of dance and he does pasadoblé and sambber and jive and a chacha routine. So, we’ll see where it goes. We’re not pushing, but we’re not pushing at all. Not not even a little bit. We’re just making sure that it continues, you know, in structure structure the structure to it. But people just don’t ask us. He does nine other things, you know, same way. We just kind of created this system and uh just to see where it ends up and he’s coming around. He’s about to be nine. Yeah. We decided this was actually our plan. Let’s see what happens at 10:00. Okay. So until 10:00 and then it’ll be like which one you want to do. I feel like 10 is where I like chose my stuff and chose my career path, which ballet school I was in and like how which was like a huge commitment and stuff like that. So I feel like at the 10 mark maybe not that he’ll know what he wants to do for the rest of his life, but we can like lay off the karate a little bit and lay off this one and like kind of choose a lane. Okay, we have to talk about the penthouse with PETA. Yeah, so many fun people have entered the penthouse, entered the chat. anyone else you’re excited to bring on to the show? We have a January packed full of people right now, but it’s been a really fun little different career move for me. I haven’t done hosting before. Um I haven’t interviewed people before. Like you’re so good at it. I had to kind of learn as I went and it’s been fun. You guys have your hands in so many different things. Fun Jane Beauty, you have your vodka line. What does the balance look like? How do you balance it all? For me, I have I have specific days and times. I know that sounds really simple, but um I really work around their schedules because I don’t want to I don’t know. I I don’t want to miss things, you know? I’m very much like I love my work, but I also love being with my kids. [Music]

    1. Question: so what did he think it was? And I’m asking the legitimately. Cause ppl aren’t watching at home to make sure that your feet is in the right pose. They are literally voting for their favorites. To say this and not think is crazy.

    2. I agree with them. For me I love to watch dance and even with popularity I don't really want to see someone stomping through a dance as opposed to actually dancing and having me vote based on talent and not popularity. JMO

    3. It is a popularity contest and those in California can’t even vote like we used to while the show is airing. By the time it airs in Ca. The live voting is over..

    4. What I find funny is that max never won a mirror ball trophy. He was always nasty on the show bashes. It
And personally, I think he dances very feminine for a man. I think his brother Val is a much better dancer. And hes got a much nicer personality
