Don Lemon was “taken into custody by federal agents” on Thursday evening, according to his lawyer.

The former CNN anchor has been charged with violating a federal law by allegedly impeding individuals’ right to worship during the anti-ICE protest at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minn., on Jan. 18, the New York Times reported Friday.

The 59-year-old was handcuffed in Los Angeles after attending the 2026 Recording Academy Honors.

  1. Don Lemon was a reporter/journalist reporting the news.
He told everyone he was going to report what was happening. It's super well documented.

  2. The Constitution protects freedom of the press and peaceful protest. Don Lemon was taking a stand against cruelty when he covered the disruption of a church service tied to ICE — forcing peaceful voices into custody isn’t justice, it’s a violation of our basic rights.

  3. Journalists go where the story is. Period.

Churches, protests, city halls, funerals, mosques, synagogues all covered spaces when newsworthy.

People are getting tripped up because they think:

“Church = sacred space = no media allowed”

That’s not how the Constitution works.

    The First Amendment protects:
       •   Freedom of the press
       •   Freedom of speech
       •   Freedom of assembly
       •   Freedom of religion

Those rights coexist — none cancels the other out.

If a church is the subject of a newsworthy event, journalists are constitutionally protected when they:
       •   Attend
       •   Observe
       •   Record
       •   Report

That protection comes straight from the First Amendment.

  4. I thought God’s House was open to everyone 🤔

Didn’t Jesus run up in a church and cause a scene when he felt it necessary? And didn’t Jesus say “Do works such as these and greater than?” 🤔

No wonder Church attendance is in steep decline. Because the hypocrisy is just flagrant.
