    1. this movie is called “October Sky” which is actually based off of a book called “Rocket boys”
Which was an autobiography of the characters in this movie.
“October Sky” is an anagram for “Rocket Boys”
Thanks to Mr. John Gallagher for teaching me that fact back in his UW astronomy class

    2. I remember the premier was in Huntsville, AL, known as The Rocket City, because a) that’s where Homer Hickham worked and b) it was the beginning of the space program. Had LBJ not taken over and moved everything to Texas, that’s where everybody would be thinking of when they talk about NASA. I never realized how backward Alabama was because I grew up around the people of Huntsville and Madison County.

    3. I've seen the movie this is from (October Sky), I've read the book it was based on (Rocket Boys, by Homer Hickam Jr.). This was one of the biggest conflicts in the movie, it lead to the suspension of the Rocket club and Homer having to work in the mines. In the book, there was a forest fire that they were suspected of causing but it was resolved within a couple hours and they were let off the hook without consequence because it was immediately determined to not be their faults. They dragged it out in the movie. Homer spent exactly 1 day in the mines, and it was only for his dad (who was one of the main foremen) to show him what kind of engineering they do down in the mines since he was on track to learning engineering, sprinkled with an attempt to encourage him to want to work for the mine. This made his mother furious because she saw how the mine was destroying her husband and the town as a whole and insisted neither of her boys work for the mine.
