    1. Joel was completely right about James' comedy chops. Check out the show 'Don't trust the bitch in apartment 23' where he plays an exaggerated version of himself and he practically steals the show. My heart goes out to his family.

    2. James seemed genuine, nice. My heart goes out to his family. I had the pleasure of sitting next to James at a diner on Wilshire back around 2018. We were both dining alone at the counter. He was two seats over. He was really funny and concerned with my salt intake, telling the staff, “I’m concerned. That’s a lot of salt.” I was eating a French dip sandwich and had requested a side of french fries. He had a kind demeanor. I never watched Dawson Creek but have seen him in some very funny stuff. RIP

    3. James was absolutely amazing in Varsity Blues too. What a fucking man. His death has me sad and scared too. Has me questioning a lot. Just heartbreaking.

    4. There's a show that came out years ago called "What would Diplo do" starring James Van Der Beek. Its was so funny and James Van Der Beek was absolutely hilarious in it. Joel McHale is right on the money, James was really funny

    5. I have always admired James for how grounded he remained despite becoming a household name so early in life. In this video, hearing about his willingness to lean into comedy on The Soup shows he never took himself too seriously. He possessed a natural warmth that was clearly evident whenever he spoke about his six children. He wasn't just a star to us; he was a man of high character who led with his heart until the very end.
