Lindsey Vonn Reacts to Being Called “Selfish” for Competing at Olympics 2026

Lindsey Vonn spoke out after being criticized for competing at the Olympics 2026, arguing that her haters “don’t understand” the level of dedication required to qualify for the Winter Games. She wrote on Instagram Feb. 21 alongside a video compilation of her races leading up to the winter games, “One thing that stung was when people said I was selfish and should give my olympic spot to someone else, so… I just wanted to recap my season for all the haters out there that don’t understand what it means to earn your spot, and on a more positive note, to just reflect.” The 41-year-old—who won gold at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and bronze at the 2018 games in PyeongChang—notes that her effort “wasn’t all for nothing” despite her devastating ordeal. She continued, “I showed up and did what most thought was impossible at my age with a partial knee replacement. Every moment was worth it.”

  1. Not only selfish, but disgustingly arrogant and karma worked its way for her arrogant actions not allowing healthy individuals to participate in something she clearly wasn’t in conditions to do it

  2. I don’t know about being selfish I think she was acting stupid in trying to ski again with a serious acl tear injury barely 7 days old … it’s being stubborn it’s stupid and hopefully she has learned to slow down and take medical advice and not risk injuring herself worse .. maybe this moment woke her up … only time will tell … she needed at least 3 surgeries to fix this new complex fracture and maybe 2 more … the only worse at this point would be death …it’s ok to stay on sidelines and retire you proved yourself decades earlier let the young blood olympians prove themselves … so after all she was being selfish and stupid for going against medical advice ..

  3. She saying every moment was great and it was worth it. Now we know that's a front. Nothing is worth surgery after surgery, unless you had complications with something that couldn't be prevented.

  4. I think her body "outed" her. She was in denial and at some level selfish IMO. Given her physical situation she should have listened to her body. It didn't end well for her and it didi cost someone healthier a spot.

  5. do haters also not understand what a rich, spoiled, entitled girl sounds and acts like? This is what happens when you refuse to deflate your ego. You hurt yourself and inconvenience others, at best. At worst, you also hurt someone else.

  6. She wasn’t the only 41 y/o skier competing in an alpine event, as well as with an ACL impairment. If anything, it was most likely her peripheral vision being less than optimum compared to the younger bunch, that caused her to clip the gate.
She qualified and she gave it all she had 🤙🏽

  7. Not selfish at all. She took a risk, and it went bad. If she is selfish, then every other ski champion is. Do not follow this sport and don't judge.

I am recovering from a bad injury at my ankle and Lindsey is a true source of inspiration to me.

To Lindsey: lot of love from Italy, it was an honour to have you here, we wish to have you here soon again

  8. She earned her spot!

It's selfish for people to think they're entitled to what they didn't earn!

Selfish self centered parents who think their young adult children are so special that other people should sacrifice, give up and get out of the way for! Grow up!

People would especially expect women to put others first!

  9. Lindsey, don't let the negative comments get to you. You deserved to keep going if you felt you could. I am proud of what you have accomplished. Just an FYI. I am old 75. I have never skied . Never had any olymipic abilities but I think I can recognize hard work and dedication that you have shown. I hope you get well.

  10. How 'bout we get behind young new talent, and not stoke egos of has-beens. Sad reality of aging..
Shoulda veen someone ½ her age .. take a power lindy
