I went to see this with 4 girlfriends. We were pre warned so expected spice. There was some spicy moments but not that bad. I was disappointed with the ending but more because I’m a fan of the original book and expected it to play out similarly. It didn’t. The costumes on Margot Robbie were just heavenly but her character was so devastatingly unhappy that it was hard to enjoy them. Every outfit felt like a bargain made. If you know what i mean. I liked Jacob Elodie in it. I think the cast were restrained by the script but that’s not their fault. One of my friends went to the loo in the most spicy scene but I think that was because she couldn’t take the emotional overload rather than it being too sexy. It is disturbing. I mean the wallpaper!😣 I would have run screaming from that house! The movie is worth seeing in my opinion but true Brontë fans may be left wanting
This movie was fantastic! Not all love story’s are meant to be Disney Princess vibes. It’s an adaptation/ basically fan fic of a toxic relationship. Period. Movie was absolutely stunning all the way through. Cinematography was top tier.
I think this could be a good PSA for those who don't know that calling this movie a horror film means it is more true to the source material than if it was considered a romance. Makes sense to me that many people might want to go see it and only have a passing familiarity.
Side note, Jane Eyre is my favorite novel and I despise Wuthering Heights and Heathcliff with a burning passion. I think someone was trolling us with the trailer. 😂
In my teens, I saw the original with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon (fascinating Indian actress passing as Caucasian) and it was clearly goth/horror/suspense Hitchcock-type of film to me from the get go. Maybe the contemporary trailer is misleading?
I’m just not supporting Jacob after what he did to my girl Joey King. Plus, I knew they would butcher the novel. Aren’t the actors like 15 years apart in age? Weird choices.
Thats true. Hollywood is Horrible to promote this movie for love and all good things. So typical of hollywood to program the masses with characters so broken, but seduce you into thinking their behavior is acceptable. Its not.
It made me look up emily brontes life and no wonder she creates such abused characters. With no sense of empathy for others. She was practically a waif.
Wuthering Heights was NOT a romance. Both Heathcliff and Catherine were terrible people. That's the entire point of the story. It's pretty much every other version that romanticized the plot. Honestly, of every version I've watched this was my favorite and the closest to the novel I imagined.

I'd never read the book since it was not required reading for my generation, but my friend is 17 years older than me and it was required for hers. I didn't watch a single trailer or look at any promotional material. (I prefer going into movies blind).
I loved it. I love horror films and the moment the first scene started with a man being hung and the opening song House by Charlie XCX began, I knew I was watching a gothic romance horror, not a sweet slow burn romance.
This is more of a commentary on people not being able to read a films themes or genre as it builds in front of them. There wasn't a single moment where I thought this was a romance film in the traditional sense.
The story is about two people who (like everyone) have been wronged in life. They never forgive and hold onto resentment and use and abuse those around them out of bitterness and spite. They can’t even love each other properly because they won’t let go of their anger. It’s a lesson on forgiveness and healing that the main characters never learn as a warning to the audience. There are other side characters in the story who are also hurt and choose to forgive and respond with grace and end up happy and peaceful.
