Actor Awards: SAG President Sean Astin Explains Name Change (Exclusive)

SAG President Sean Astin talks with ET’s Nischelle Turner at the 32nd Actor Awards about why they changed the name of the show. He said there were two main reasons; the statue is called ‘The Actor’ and, since SAG merged with AFTRA, it made sense the name would no longer just have one union in the title. The Actor Awards streamed live, Sunday, March 1, on Netflix.

    1. How is it that I knew the award was called the actor but the people that received it did not? Just shows what they really think of these awards.

    2. Yeah, if you have to over explain your Relevance, perhaps spend more time thinking about said Relevance (than making up new award show stuff).
It's tough watching this Industry gut itself – and the Actors be Acting like they are the last to know.
Show is definitely over as they knew it.
No cringe award name change will put a bandage on that gaping wound.
Doesn't even look like he is buying it either.

    3. So many awards to honour actors. I do enjoy movies and the actors but it's a bit much. How about honouring more people like Physicians and Surgeons who save lives, Teachers who change students lives for the better, Firemen who go into burning buildings and the list goes on! 😊
