Police in Cathedral City, California released doorbell camera footage showing a man attacking Officer Marcus Ayala with a knife when the officer responded to a 911 call about a family disturbance around 3:11 p.m. on July 27. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Juan Francisco Sosa Jr., confronted the officer at the front door, leading to a struggle that was captured on video until additional officers arrived and the suspect was arrested at the scene. Officer Ayala suffered only a minor injury and returned to full duty the following week. Sosa was charged with attempted murder and robbery, pleaded not guilty, and is scheduled to return to court on September 3.
