    1. This is moronic. Shakespeare is deep as fuck. Read it. Learn what it means. What kind of a midwit complains about a thing they don't understand but haven't studied?

    2. I did a Shakespearean play much Ado about nothing and the whole cast had to learn our lines in modern English to understand what we were saying in old English

    3. As someone who has studied Shakespeare both as literature and as an actor, when you're acting and you get it and you're vibing, people get it.
When you're reading it, you don't get it. The meanings you can learn, but the reason Shakespeare ensures is because when it's performed it transcends.

    4. I always thought there was way more sarcasm and dirty jokes, even in the serious dramas and it bothered me no end that no adaptations were pickihg up on that. Now i know none of us know wth is going on and its all subjective lol

    5. How does she get away with this but saying ballet and opera are dying art forms is bad??? Like anyone has paid to see a ballet or opera recently 🙄

    6. Ian McKellan performing "The Stranger's Case" on Stephen Colbert has over 3 million views across social media platforms. A 400-year-old piece by Shakespeare that was completely understandable and relatable to current events. Guess these two just felt they needed to give Shakespeare the "Chalamet" treatment.

    7. I studied Shakespeare in high school and in college and enjoyed it, but it was definitely work.

Then at some point in my mid 20s, I could suddenly understand it. Not work anymore. I know it’s not magic, it was just all of those things settling in my brain.

I’ve been like that ever since with Shakespeare.

It annoys everyone around me when I watch the performances and laugh at the jokes!

    8. Also Shakespeare is meant to be performed not read really. I get why they make you read it and i was a freak who read Shakespeare without having to just because I wanted to. It doesn't have to be so out of reach or touch for everyone. Just about every plot there is derives from his stuff it IS amazing.

    9. Lol hard disagree. I love Shakespeare, and illiterate people with zero culture used to go to his plays and LOVED them. He was the blockbuster entertainer of his day. Any movie based on his plays is great. His plots and stories and characters are great.

I think people CAN understand. Maybe not ALL the turns of phrase or the metaphors or the deeper themes. But I’ma defend my boy William.

    10. Sorry, but I’ve seen Shakespeare acted incredibly well in Washington DC and you could follow the entire story as could the entire crowd. People were on the edge of their seat. Sorry Amy! you just sound dumb.

    11. Thank God someone fucking said it. I remembering reading Shakespeare in HS and just not connecting to it at all (even though I love to read). SparkNotes was the goat back then.
