BB-8 puppeteer Brian Herring says the Star Wars sequels are “no more polarizing than the prequels were” and “in 10 years’ time” they’ll be loved like the prequels, too

The prequels were loved by people who watched them as kids. The clone wars show helped too, as if a show made years later written by different people “fixes” the various plot holes and issues in the prequels

The prequels actually had a cohesive story throughout them. The dialogue may have been terrible, there may have been plot holes, but it wouldn’t have worked without all 3 movies.
You can completely drop episode 8 and nothing changes lol, not to mention there was no cohesion between any of them.

The prequels have their issues, but the sequels don’t even have a coherent storyline. You can see the script flip flopping between films

Here’s the thing: People have been crying about “Star Wars sucks now” since Return of the Jedi. It’s nothing new. However, I think there’s a big difference between “this is not as good as what I grew up with” and “this is a complete mess”. There’s no saving the sequels because you had two different directors who absolutely hated what the other was doing. People aren’t going to come around to the sequels.

I think in 10 years people might appreciate Last Jedi more, but I don’t see that with Rise of Skywalker.

Huge disagree, and the big difference here is that while the prequels might not be good films, they’re at least made with an incredible amount of care, planning, and heart, by the man who created the franchise.
The sequels are not only bad films, they’re poorly planned corporate bullshit made as quickly as possible for the sake of recouping Disney’s money as fast as they could.
They are NOT the same thing. The prequels are bad in an endearing way, the sequels are bad in a way that highlights everything wrong with the modern studio movie making process.

I doubt it. The prequels are bad, but theyre a singular vision by a crazy genius of the genre. The sequels are a corporate cash grab with no planning thay arguably killed the franchise.

Just need to let the nostalgia clingers room to appreciate that they liked being whatever the age they were during these releases than they do 10 years later.

For all their flaws, I enjoyed the prequels, and Revenge Of The Sith being the best meant ending on a positive note. I think that wins a lot of fans over.
The sequels ended with Rise Of Skywalker – a movie with a lot of plot holes, and a host of other issues that individually we might ignore but together are hard to gloss over.

Oh I don’t think they’ll be regarded the same way as the prequels. Force awakens is entertaining. Last jedi is divisive. Rise is a cash grab

I enjoyed The Force Awakens. The other two seemed like dick swinging battles between the directors. The stories only served to contradict the prior films. The sequel trilogy ended up being a narrative mess with space horses thrown in for the merch people. No one will remember the sequels.

I bet that sentiment does eventually happen.
Both the prequels and sequels are awful. But a huge amount of people who saw them as kids will look back and think “I enjoyed that part of my life, but yeah the movies kinda sucked”
Because that’s essentially what happened to the prequels. People didn’t start thinking they were good, they were thinking the life context they had for those movies was good and they’ll yearn for it.

I enjoyed the prequels (with the exception of JarJar and the pod racing taking up a lot of time) and I still enjoy them to this day. Never understood all the hate.
The sequels are wildly inconsistent in their tone (switching directors, studio interference) and while I don’t completely hate them, they very much felt like movies created by a committee. There is some solid cinematography, but the dialogue isn’t great and the plot takes a dive and implodes by the third film.

I feel like that’s just false. The prequels had a coherent story that continued from one installment to the next. Eventually , things could be overlooked. I just don’t see that happening with the sequels.

People have been saying the sequels sucked since Empire came out.
Everyone seems to have memory holed that w/the original trilogy each subsequent film made significantly less than the one that preceded it going from $775 for ANH to $550 for ESB to $482 for RotJ. Empire got ripped for being depressing w/it’s tone shift and not having a self contained story while Jedi got ripped for being a kiddified rehash of A New Hope . Empire did not start getting called the best SW movie until the 90s and Jedi only started to be reevaluated when the prequels were released.

Haden still acted badly in E2, the dialog for the entire trilogy was dog shit. And all in all wasnt worth decanonizing EU for.

As a prequels enjoyer, I liked enough of the dialogue to ignore the shitty parts of dialogue. Plus, the saber battles, CGI, and overall cinematography were all very enjoyable for me.
For me, the sequels have little to no redeeming qualities. The saber battles sucked, but more importantly the thematic betrayal of Rey being a daughter of the Emperor totally ruined any goodwill I had towards the sequels. The only part I liked was Adam Driver’s performance, as he embodied the rage and power of his character well.

The prequels are hard to watch, the dialogue is terrible, a lot of the acting just isn’t great, and the CGI aged like milk. For all of George Lucas’s genius, he isn’t a great writer, and is a terrible editor. He had ultimate control of the prequels, and it ruined them.
The Force Awakened started the sequels with so much potential. I still enjoy it. All that potential was squandered. Instead of allowing writers to make a coherent story, it’s clear Disney was chasing check marks on marketing surveys and making knee jerk decisions to test audience reactions.
Rogue one is the best of the “recent” movies.
The original trilogy is still untouched.

I think and hope The Last Jedi will be remembered more fondly. I get that hardcore fans were upset with the usage of the original characters, but as a casual Star Wars fan that didn’t bother me. I appreciated them trying to do something different and move the story to a new place.
The Force Awakens worked for me at the time because of nostalgia but I don’t think it’s aged well. The Rise of Skywalker was dead on arrival IMO. I don’t think either will be remembered fondly.
