The Princess Diaries is an American teen comedy film released in 2001. The movie tells the legendary story of Mia (played by Anne Hathaway), a 15-year-old high school student from San Francisco. She is a shy, insecure, and ordinary girl living with her single mother, often overlooked at school. However, on her 16th birthday, her stern and dignified grandmother, Clarisse (played by Julie Andrews), makes a sudden visit and reveals a shocking truth: Mia is the heir to the throne of the small European country of Genovia—she is a real princess!

To prepare Mia for her royal identity in a short time, the Queen puts her through comprehensive “princess training.” From posture and etiquette to clothing and mannerisms, Mia awkwardly and humorously adapts to a life completely different from her old one, leading to many hilarious situations. Meanwhile, her princess identity is leaked to the media, shattering her quiet school life. Facing criticism from classmates and pressure from the public, she nearly decides to renounce her title. In the end, after reading a diary left by her late father, Mia regains her confidence and courage, realizing that being a true princess means responsibility and duty. At the Independence Day ball, she bravely steps forward, officially declares herself princess, and gains precious friendship and love

The things writers make up to make characters look stupid actually rather make the writers look stupid instead.
