  1. Had no idea what to expect swiping through that but ha, I like him.

Also Ruby by Jennie was a surprisingly great album with the best features list I’ve ever seen.

as a korean, the way that the non-korean stans are calling him a “self-hating korean” for his review is so funny. like pls be serious lmao

I’m into multiple fandoms that have notoriously deranged segments, and the stuff I regularly see from kpop fandoms still scares the shit out of me.

I have been observing his beef with the kpop stan community for some time now. I

It’s beautiful to see, because while I may not always agree with or know who he is talking about. I do like to watch the reactions jdoxxopxofpfofofododofodood

I’m invested because he said Red Velvet has the best discography in K-pop which is correct.

Kpop fans of any kind cannot take criticism because it’s all turned into a competition.

I used to be embarrassed to be a Kpop fan because it was niche and “weird”. Now I’m embarrassed because of this shit

  7. That Jennie shit is a lot more vile and embarrassing than giving a biased hater review.

I’ve been a BTS fan since their debut and I can say this is my least favorite album of theirs. I’m also still really excited for their tour and try to find joy in some of the songs. let people hate things without taking it personally!!!

Journalists should be allowed to remain anonymous when reviewing projects that have toxic fandoms. Protect journalists

The behemoth that is BTS’ fandom is way too big for its own good. They can’t be objective to save their lives. I really like the group and they’re extremely good at what they do but the fanbase always seems to be so wildly obnoxious.

  11. daily reminder that bts fans, especifically the gigglekook twitter account, made deepfakes of minors and uploaded to explicit sites as a “drag” bc the minors were mocking bts. that account still gets thousands of likes by bts fans bc theyre misogynistic to bp and other groups

I’m a huge bts army but I genuinely think his review was valid and I agreed with many of his points. His online persona is rather insufferable, so I choose not to follow him or care. It’s really easy to block or mute people who annoy you online and just enjoy what you want to enjoy. It’s ok to critique art as well. It’s ok to like something or not like it- the creepy stan behavior is so rampant in all fandoms it makes me not want to engage in any fandom at all.

  13. They are acting as if Jennie’s album is the highest rated kpop album on Pitchfork. Which is not, they gave higher ratings to Red Velvet, Twice and NewJeans. They even gave previous BTS albums about the same rating as Ruby. They thought their new album sucked, why is this Jennie’s problem?

  14. all the biggest korean bands are just knock offs of american boy and girl bands. and they usually flagrantly steal black and mixed culture even WORSE than the white ones which is hard to do. whats the appeal, i don’t get it

Why are kpop stans so fucking weird? I love kpop so much but my GOD, he left a less than stellar review about an album but yall act as if though he killed someone. Bts’s album was honestly so disappointing, and I don’t blame him for feeling this way about it. (Side note: despite my personal feelings regarding Jennie as an artist, her album was really good and had some great features so I’m not surprised to see the rating).

as a korean… its really odd to see non-koreans get so worked up and fight each other about kpop/korea related issues that we ourselves are quite neutral about (ie this album). like a music critic who happens to be korean american giving this album a lukewarm review actually isn’t that deep! so no one needs to spin this into some asian american identity introspect blah blah and no one has to speak on our behalf, we can do that ourselves thank you very much

  17. I haven’t joined a fandom since Homestuck and I won’t start now. People lost their shame and I’m ok not partaking. This guy is undeniably based though.

  18. This guy is annoying, he can have whatever opinion but i think he really likes to be relevant by fighting fans online

  19. hieeehelloyellow on

That guy is problematic af as well. Has a history of being racist towards Blackpink Lisa and misogynistic towards her fans.

What goes around comes around indeed.

My main takeaway from this is that both Joshua Minsoo Kim and some BTS fans spend entirely too much time on Twitter. The hate he’s getting is inexcusable, obviously, but his posts are also pretty cringe. Smug edgelord vibes.

  21. sir_thrillho on

Joshua is actually a nice guy but they just want to believe he’s some kind of mega hater just because he doesn’t automatically fawn over everything bts does

Fandoms in general are scary. I know dedicated fans have been around forever but the oneset of social media, swipe right and dopamine culture has turned every new post, every picture, every click into this intense, immanent cultural event that arrives and is gone in a flash, like a strobe light. There is no time for contemplation. Everybody reacts with their base instinct.

There is something deeply worrying about that. Without wanting to sound too dramatic, being able to hold a model of reality in our minds, compare it to what we sense and experience, take time to understand the differences then integrate all of that into a moral stance is fundamental to emotional growth and maturity. We are being infantilised: all we know is the warmth and comfort of mothers milk and the terrifying, dark absence of it.
