Donald Trump is leading a horrifying ethnic-cleansing campaign, gutting the Constitution, and trying to give himself king-like powers. He’s leading an illegal and reckless war against Iran, in partnership with Israel, that’s immiserating so many people here and abroad.
Meanwhile, prominent Democrats – ranging from elected members of Congress, to 2026 Senate candidates, to likely 2028 presidential hopefuls – are spending their time condemning Hasan Piker, the left-wing streamer and influencer, as part of a cancellation campaign spearheaded by Third way, the centrist think tank.
Third Way, which is funded by billionaires and corporate interests, has been quite open about its broader goal and ongoing campaign to marginalize the left. “We will be the chief opponent of the left in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary,” the organization’s president, Jon Cowan, recently pledged. Asked to define the kind of lefty candidates Third Way doesn’t like, he pinpointed pols who “are for Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, abolishing ICE, open borders.”
Cowan told the New York Times that Third Way will “probably spend $30 million to $50 million” toward this campaign over the next few years.
In a memo last year, Third Way advised Democrats to build “a moderate Democratic infrastructure, including media, talent pipelines, and communications networks.” And it urged Dems to “reduce far-left influence and infrastructure,” neither of which meaningfully exists yet in US politics.
Third Way is targeting Piker as part of a broader effort to keep the Democratic Party under the control of big corporations, the ultra-wealthy, and supporters of Israel, no matter what the party’s base wants.

[Politico also has an article similar to this](https://www.politico.com/news/2026/03/28/hasan-piker-democrats-midterms-2028-00849453%E2%80%99) titled “ Why some Democrats want to shut off Hasan Piker’s ‘megaphone’”
“I’m a megaphone, right?” Piker told POLITICO. “There are a lot of Barbs and Deborahs out there in Minneapolis, for example, that have never encountered me, and yet they share that frustration with the failures of establishment liberalism all the same.”
Piker said those type of voters view Democrats as “ineffective, inept.” “It’s not because they tune into The HasanAbi broadcast every day,” he said, referencing his Twitch channel. “They arrive at that conclusion because the Democrats lost to Trump twice. With the same principle that you got to pivot to the mythical moderate center.”
This isn’t Piker’s first rodeo: He livestreamed an interview last year with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders before one of the duo’s “Fighting Oligarchy” rallies. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also sat for an interview with Piker last year.
Third Way co-founder Matt Bennett compared him to Nick Fuentes and Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz) and Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) all said they wouldn’t go on Piker’s stream through spokespeople. “Mr. Piker’s terrible comments about Jewish people, 9/11, and other areas aren’t the kinds of conversations Cory participates in and he will not be joining him on his stream,” an aide to Booker told POLITICO.
Is he generally a popular or known person in the states? Like by the average person?
I’m not in America and I have never once heard this guy mentioned in real life or outside of Reddit lmao. I’m curious.
Always has been
Funny how within minutes of the post you have the hidden profile brigade jump in and start trying to discredit Piker. Basically proves the article’s point.
Hasan is free money for the right, there are several right wing YouTube channels that exist partially around criticizing everything he does, and even Livestreamfail with politics banned is still finding things to criticize about him such as where stayed at a hotel or how much his clothing cost because the right is too stupid to understand hasan talking point about wealth and taxation that they instead created a straw man to fight.
Not a huge follower of Hasan but know of him. Hasan in ENTRY level leftism. The people that hate on him are the same that would vote for Gavin Newsome because of his tweets against Trump.
It was “the left needs a Joe Rogan” until they got one
He’s a flawed person but his being vocal about Israel seems to be his biggest crime to the Democratic Party … and what does that say.
I hope the attempted canceling ends up as a Streisand Effect.
God, Democrats would rather let this country burn to the ground than ever let progressives do anything.
I am once again asking the Democratic Party to campaign FOR something instead of AGAINST someone else. It’s like they have a humiliation kink.
I can’t take anyone seriously if they compare him to Nick Fuentes.
Everything I know about Hasan I know through terminally online bitching about him or in favor of him on Reddit. No real human being has ever been like “Did you catch the latest Hasan stream?” at any point in my life.
In summary, and to quote a wise man, “who cares. pick up a football.”
I like how the Dem establishment and liberal media spent half a year asking: “what’s the problem with young men?”, “how can we get young men back into the party”, “who’s the Joe Rogan of the Left?”. Then, they saw Mamdani’s success and the role that key, relatively young, men in media played in it (Hasan, Kid Mero, Stavvy), saw how popular it was to run on economic populism and anti-genocide while also not sounding like a grandpa. And, yet, after all that they say: “Nah, we’re not going to change our policy positions or support popular Left personalities that appeal to this population we’re”super concerned” about. We’ll go back to neoliberal nonsense and war hawking and if you don’t like it you hate (women, POCs, Queer folks, college-educated folks, etc.).
Idk I don’t think Hasan Piker is a very good mouthpiece of the left — this feels like it’s treating him as too important and effective of a figure.
Hasan Piker’s streams have an average viewership of around 30,000, which is equivalent to regional public access television. He’s buzzy on social media but there’s absolutely no evidence that he’s some kind of influential kingmaker progressives need to curry favour with or listen to.
I don’t personally like the guy, but is it the Democrats best strategy to become country club Republicans?
“reduce far left influence”
Literally where
Democrats mostly run as a Republican Lite party these days. He’s an actual voice of American left politics. Naturally, there is a vested interest from both parties to make sure a proper left don’t get a foothold in US politics.
The Democratic establishment is terrified of the base expecting a leftward shift and priorities to actually be passed and enacted. This is just another sign of it.
This is crazy bc he’s not that important? By doing this, they’re making his name bigger? It seems like it’s having the opposite effect.
Also I had no idea there’s centrist think tanks!?!
Hasan is not in any way aligned with the Democratic Party, they absolutely should not attempt to caucus with him. He does not seek the party’s success.
all this because dems in office refuse to recognize that opinions have radically shifted on isreal and the isreal machine desperately trying to claw it back. theyre lossing ground to tucker fucking carlson and candace owens on an 90 10 issue with their base. gross
Not a Hasan stan, but I absolutely called this when all the online traffic about him torturing his dog came out. They did the same thing to Madeline Pendleton.
Hasan hate is so forced and manufactured.
I hate when the worst person possible gets attacked and you have to defend them
Never heard of this person lmao
Democrats who lie about the progressive left aren’t fooling anyone. It’s working against them.
Even if Hasan is an abrasive asshole, he is generally correct. He is just arrogant, which makes people dislike him.
You don’t have to be a humble, soft person to be a “good mouthpiece”. If I agree with him, I can look past his annoying mannerisms.
He’s not promoting harmful ideology.
