A Mexican immigrant died in ICE custody in Los Angeles on March 25, ICE said on Monday. This marks at least 14 deaths in ICE custody in 2026. Jose Guadalupe Ramos was found unconscious and unresponsive in his bunk. He had medical issues, including diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension.

The death rate in 2025 for ice detainees was 6.83 per 100,000 admissions. For comparison the US mortality rate for all working age adults per 100,000 people is ~ 395 per 100,000. This represents a factor of 58 times fewer deaths than the US working age population.
