Oh god I want me time.
You don’t need to have kids. I have kids. They are the most important thing in my life. I learn so much from them. They provide me a sense of purpose and responsibility that I didn’t have before. You get to grow with them. I gained a new appreciation for life that I didn’t have before and time suddenly exists in a much clearer perspective. They humble me, cause me to question my preconceived notions and opinions.
If you don’t want kids, that’s totally valid. These things I mentioned can be pursued through other means. Life is random and chaotic, and to me, that’s joy.

I agree with what he said. In real life, the people that have kids look tired and stressed all the time to me. I think I would maybe want kids in the future, but that desire is totally outweighed by the freedom of not having them. Idk, having kids looks like you basically give your life away for 2 decades. Although, if I was wealthy I think that would actually make me feel more comfortable to have them
fuck yeah! we need more positive, non baby hating perspective on how not having kids is a viable and genuinely great outcome for some. too many people have kids because they feel the pressure or don’t want to miss out and it was a complete mistake, and that is far far more harmful than just abstaining even if you just aren’t sure.
We got a lot of humans in this world. Not bringing kids should also be celebrated. Especially if it’s not what you want. Intentional parenting is cool! Intentional non parenting is also cool!
I love the way he put it and I agree. Some people might call me selfish but I get overstimulated crazy easily. And when I’m overstimulated I’m mean. Why shouldn’t every moment be ‘me time’ if that’s the case?
In addition to the many other reasons why having kids isn’t in the cards for me. Good for Seth and his wife for living life on their terms!
It’s funny. My wife and I in our early 20s used to get dirty looks and a lot of “WHY?” responses from friends when we said we didn’t want to have kids. Now in our mid 30s when our friends that now have kids ask if we still don’t want kids and we say nope, they nod in agreement and say “yeah, I understand.”
Not many people will question a man but if a woman is questioned…

I have a toddler and I’m now starting to be jealous of the kid free folk 🥲
Ever since I was a kid I’ve said I didn’t want to have kids. My dad’s side of the family has a history of alcoholism and tendencies to be violent to women. On my mom’s side mental illness. I had always been terrified of passing those tendencies on and I plan on sticking to that promise.
I love having large amounts of free time, and I love being financially stable. I feel like both of those would dramatically decrease with kids. Everyone always told me growing up that I would regret not having kids and the pressures of society really wanted that to happen, but now being on the plus side of 40, I certainly haven’t had any regrets yet!
To add to this, it seems right now, having kids is more financially draining than it ever has been. Daycare is through the roof, insurance costs have gotten insane, and then if your kid wants college, there is another major financial hit. Not even adding the rising costs of other everyday things and it just boggles my mind why anyone would want kids in this world (well in ‘Murica at least).
I don’t want kids.
I don’t want dogs.
Fuck all of that. I do whatever I want all the time and I find fulfillment in my friends and family and most importantly, my own company.
All of my siblings have kids, so A, I’m off the hook, and B, I got a preview of what that life is like and do not want that at all. Luckily there is no possibility of me spawning new ones.
My boyfriends sister has 4 kids under 3. That’s been enough to make me rethink my choices about kids

I agree that we need more child free representation! Imagine being rich AND childfree like Seth, that’s gotta be beyond awesome.
I love being child-free. I’ve been called selfish for it, but there’s nothing selfish about recognising that a child deserves obliging parents, unconditional love, and financial stability. Some of us can’t or won’t provide that. That’s fine. Live your life as you wish, and if you really love children, stop worrying about child-free adults and start worrying about the children the US is murdering instead.
I love this guy and the movie he made, “Superbad,” is my all-time favourite movie. Also, he’s an anti-zionist. Kudos to him for not falling for false propaganda.
If I had his bank account I wouldn’t want kids either. Being able to do what you want 24/7 with no financial worries? Sounds great
I have no issue with anyone not wanting kids, I don’t believe everyone should be a parent. Some don’t have a good constitution for it. But they should not be shamed for not wanting kids if they value their personal time.
I have no issue with someone wanting kids, if its for the right reasons and do your best not to make sure they end up in therapy 20 years later for your decisions. This is coming from the perspective of growing up in an abusive environment, so my perspective on this is a very critical one.
Personally I don’t want kids because I don’t want them to inherit my baggage, and I’m selfish in the fact that I enjoy my free time and that is a heavy responsibility that I’m not willing to commit to. Plus the longer I live and the more I see how things have been throughout history and the current trajectory of everything makes me have no desire to bring someone in this world to inherit the kind of existence they didn’t ask for or had no choice in.
If I wanted to have a kid, I would go through the adoption process. There are plenty of kids out there already who don’t have parents.

As much as I feel like I would be a great parent! This current timeframe is fucked and maybe I was late to the party! So having kids scares to me death and I have made other arrangements.

How you need to act in the best interest for the very being that takes their poop out and drags it against the bedroom wall is something that takes patience, altruism, and a whole pharmacy of meds.

Agreed. I have kids and before I had kids I wish someone in my life had spoken honestly to me about how hard it can be. My quality of life is worse with kids. Of course I love my kids and they give my life meaning but – there have been so many sacrifices to make on behalf of them, and you always feel guilty if you put yourself first instead of always sacrificing.

I ended up not being able to have kids, and my partner and I are now 40/50 and some Saturday mornings we sleep in and wake up and go get brunch with the dog, then go back home and puts around, order takeout and watch horro movies- and we’re like we wouldn’t be doing this if we had kids. She’s gone a lot for work as well and the burden of childcare would have completely fallen on me. It’s still a tiny bit sad, we wanted kids- but we’re very content with our childfree life and love all the freedom it allows.
For real though. People make having kids sound awesome with the occasional cute moment or two. Maybe that’s may comics and sitcoms make it sound awful as well. “I like my friends’ kids probably more than they do” haha
It’s better to regret not having kids than regretting having kids. I don’t think I have a maternal instinct and having kids it’s not for everybody, everybody’s concept of happiness is different!
