In 1998, George Michael was arrested by an undercover cop for cruising in Bev Hills, sparking a highly publicized scandal. Many thought it would damage his career, but George responded with the hit “Outside.” Officer Marcelo Rodriguez later sued for “emotional distress”…but the case was dismissed.

This is a good example of a music video that’s aged really well.

    Also, he was really attractive.

One of the best music videos of the 90s especially when you put in the context of the arrest, Michael subsequent coming out, and comparing to his previous music videos.

He played an active role in his videos, much of the symbolism in them was purposeful and referential.

George was a once in a generation talent – and I just loved his take no shit attitude when it came to the press and record labels – his fight with Sony music was legendary, releasing music to fulfill his contract but doing no other promotional work for it.

This still from the Fastlove music video was a not so subtle dig at his record label

I’ve never heard this song and DEFINITELY never seen the music video but this is awesome. Has held up so well for its time

Cruising… what does it mean in this context? I only know it as “driving around in (probably) a cool car”, which doesn’t really warrant an arrest.

I’d service the community.. but I already have, you see 🎶
    An iconic line
George was so clever with such a sense of humour. He’s been on my algorithm lately with old vids commenting on the post 9/11 political landscape and he’s so astute and brave and sharp. We lost a great one.

I would’ve also been emotional distressed if I had fumbled a chance with George Michael.

They tormented poor George Michael. THAT is one way society has actually advanced.

  9. OMG I was a preteen when this came out and the Philippine censor board wouldn’t show the entire music video lol.

Oh I remember myself snickering when I first saw it. He really did a genius thing with that one.

    Sincerely

    Skeletor 💜

He wore a policeman’s outfit when he sang this song in concert. Spectacular and aspirational levels of petty that our boy made into art.
