He played this role with such compilation and understanding. Absolute legend!

He was so good in this – he deserved an Oscar for it

I don’t know how he managed to do this without making it look like an insensitive parody

This role is remarkable because there is such a sensitivity and respect that is so apparent in the portrayal. We, as the audience, feel protective towards Arnie as a result. It doesn’t feel like an imitation at all.
It’s why this role holds up and other attempts to play mentally disabled people do not.

That role was a true masterclass in acting

Legit thought Leo was an actual disabled person when this movie came out.

I still think he should have had an Oscar for that movie.
Funny, sometimes I momentarily forget that he is a REALLY good actor and has been for decades. Must be all the 28yo age limit jokes.

This is why he’s Leo. He’s such a great actor. He pulled this off as a kid and it’s still a stunningly accurate portrayal of a special needs child.

Don’t care what people think of Leo’s personal life, but he’s definitely one of the bedt actors alive right now.

I’ve only seen this movie once. It fucked me up.

This is one of those movies I can only watch once because it made me bawl so much

My favourite part of this is how the cast and crew talked about how surreal it was to watch him switch from “Arnie” back into Leo. That he’d be having a smoke break with the Arnie clothes on and the dirt around his mouth and nails just talking in his regular voice.

That famous scene with his mother is some of the best acting I’ve seen.
