    Marilyn Monroe (/ˈmærəlɪn mənˈroʊ/ MARR-ə-lin mən-ROH; born Norma Jeane Mortenson; June 1, 1926 – August 4, 1962) was an American actress and model. Known for playing comic “blonde bombshell” characters, she became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s, as well as an emblem of the era’s sexual revolution. She was a top-billed actress for a decade, and her films grossed $200 million (equivalent to $2 billion in 2025) by her death in 1962.

    Monroe’s troubled private life received much attention. Her marriages to retired baseball star Joe DiMaggio and to playwright Arthur Miller were highly publicized; both ended in divorce. On August 4, 1962, Monroe died at the age of 36 of a barbiturate overdose at her Los Angeles home.

    Marilyn Monroe is buried at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California, specifically in the Corridor of Memories, crypt number 24. Located at 1218 Glendon Ave, the site is known for its bronze plaque that has been discolored by many lipstick-smeared kisses from fans. She was laid to rest on August 8, 1962.

    Marilyn Monroe’s funeral was a private,30-guest service held on August 8, 1962, at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery, arranged by her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio to avoid Hollywood spectacle. She was laid to rest in a champagne satin-lined bronze casket, wearing a green Pucci dress, following a simple ceremony with a eulogy by Lee Strasberg.

    Location: The cemetery is in Westwood Village, a busy commercial area near UCLA.
    Neighbors: Hugh Hefner is buried next to her, having purchased the spot in 1992. Richard Poncher is buried above her.
    Visitors: Fans often leave flowers, letters, and red roses at the crypt.
    Other Notable Burials: The small,, hidden cemetery also hosts the graves of Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Roy Orbison, and Natalie Wood.

    The site is open to the public, though it is often bustling with tourists visiting the famous grave.

      Its really sad if some fool marks up or destroys any grave. Some people have no respect for anyone alive or not. I agree its cool for the lipstick kisses , that's not bad at all and as a matter of fact that's probably been happening since she passed. It seems Marilyn is just as popular now as she was 63 years ago when she died.

      Her guardian Grace Goddard and Aunt Ana Lower are buried there that's why it was chosen for her to be interred there as well. It was a place she would visit in life before she became famous

      I was there in 1991 to pay my respects to Marilyn. Left a big smooch on her grave! I have a picture somewhere. I was surprised by how hidden away this cemetery was, we almost gave up and didn't find it.

      You know I love you Scott and your channel, patreon follower as well. Marilyn never met Hugh Hefner. No. Mr. Hefner bought the copyrights to reproduce her nude calendar she did with
      the red velvet she was laying on. She was paid $50 dollars for it. So, Mr. Hefner used that image reproduction for the launch of his Playboy magazine in 1953, even putting her on the front cover.
      She posed for the calendar for a known photographer, but she asked him she would only do it with his wife present, in 1949.

      You shouldn't really kiss grave stones. It can damage them by causing the stone to discolour or erode. Proper restoration is costly usually so no, better not to do it there's no respect from doing it anyway and it's become a 'thing' only recently. There are far better ways to show how you feel.
