Bryan Cranston on people hating Skyler from ‘Breaking Bad’: “Her husband leaves without any explanation, she’s pregnant, he’s making crystal meth and people have died and she’s the bitch?”

    *completely agree*

And when you watch it a second time, you get it. The novelty is gone and you see the monster that WW really is.

  2. I don’t trust men who “jokingly” say they want to kill a woman, even a fictional one.

  3. I didn’t really like Skyler, but people who can’t empathize with her situation at all are a red flag tbh. She didn’t ask to be married to a criminal and was never going to be about that life anyway.

the golden tv years of misogyny where we had so many shows about the “man is an asshole but cool” arc. sopranos, breaking bad and so on.

  5. CobblerTricky7035 on

This is not surprising for Frankie. He probably thinks Tony Soprano, Don Draper, Patrick Bateman etc are the good guys too.

She frustrated me the first time I watched it but every time Ive rewatched the show I have become more and more empathetic and sad for her. Shes actually one of the best characters, imo, and doesn’t deserve even a fraction of the hate she gets.

That being said the “happy birthday Mr president” scene makes me wanna claw my eyes out every time lol

People thinking Bryan Cranston would agree with the Skylar haters are delusional. This is a talented, educated man with media literacy who actually gets laid on a regular basis, he’s definitely not a misogynist Skylar hater. Embarrassing that Frankie thought they would bond over this “joke”.

He sees his character for the villain that he absolutely was. He literally poisoned a child and indirectly caused the death of his mother for his own gain and people are like “but Skylar was a bit annoying!!”

  8. Great question for every first date I have had with a man was “who was your favorite character and your least favorite character in Breaking Bad?” If they said they hated Skyler there was never a second date.

When I went on my first date with my now husband I asked him this, and he said his least favorite character was Todd, which is also my least favorite. I wanted to play devil’s advocate so I just said “and what about Skyler? She was kinda annoying right?” He said, “What about her? Her husband’s a dick.”

Anyway I’m so glad I’m married to this man now

  9. I’m rewatching breaking bad right now and Walter is TERRIBLE.

She’s pregnant and he’s leaving her alone doing God knows what fake having a fugue state???? He’s honestly psychologically terrorizing her and fans defend Walt. Skyler was right to divorce his ass.

Watching Walt’s decisions slowly degrade the integrity of his marriage even while he pretends everything is fine is like one of the best parts of the show. If you kill Skyler it would be significantly less interesting.

Shes not even annoying, she’s literally just acting like a regular person. Are the people who get annoyed with her are also angry at their Moms for asking them to get a job and move out of the basement in their 30s?

  11. imper_forated on

Yes skyler is annoying BUT she’s the most realistic character. She’s behaving like any of us would if our family member started acting like walter white.

  12. OK, OK, I guess I’ll watch Breaking Bad again.

Walt ruined everyone’s lives around him (or they ended up dead). Why would we hate Skyler?

  13. yeah that was probably from a good place as it’s Frankie’s TV dad, but weird asf to think and then say out loud lmao

  14. Bikinigirlout on

Yes. I felt insane watching Breaking Bad and kept waiting for what made Skylar so horrible and she just acted like a normal housewife who’s husband was diagnosed with cancer.

I do think the tide is sort of shifting with that character though. I don’t see as much hate as I used to.

  15. QuirkyWish3081 on

Skyler ain’t the villain. Trust me. But the protagonist of this story so happens to be its villain. So yes, she is a foil to his character. But no she is good up until she starts helping him. What a great show. Beautifully acted.

Mind you Walt turned down a well paying job that would have provided benefits and healthcare for his family.

So he was a meth dealing criminal who destroyed his family and got his mom killed purely for the love of the game.

  17. People really hate on Skylar when I believe she’s the most realistic person in the show.

Like, Walt literally rapes her in their kitchen and it’s never discussed by the dick riding Walt fans because Skylar is too much of a “nag..”

  18. I did a rewatch lately and felt a total 180 from my original feelings of Skylar. But more importantly I found WW absolutely despicable, despite finding him kind of cool and likable before?

Idk if it’s just my increased age, or general perceptions in society have changed, but I’ve spoken to a bunch of other people who had similar experiences on the rewatch.

  19. I always find it ironic that throughout the entire series, you can see how the show constantly criticize Walt and his ego, and it not even subtle. But somehow, the fans, who always praise how great the show is, are the ones with the biggest egos amd stupid take. Sometime I don’t really understand what they like about the show, when they behave exactly like what the show criticizes, and I also can’t take seriously those who watch the whole series and still think Walt is right and shit on Skyler.

  20. therealdanhill on

Wasn’t she portrayed before any crimes happened as a pretty bad wife that took her husband’s capacity for granted

  21. It’s cause people liked seeing Walter do his thing and Skylar wanted to prevent Walter doing his thing ~ boo

  22. Cranston never got lost in the character the way some actors have when playing popular villains. I have never heard him say an apology for WW behavior or to provide some moral high ground for it.

Frankie got schooled, but he was schooled by one of the best.

  23. GreenVermicelliNoods on

We don’t seriously need to revive MAGA Frankie Muniz’s career just because he wants money. Fuck that guy.

  24. Agnosticologist on

The problem is that at the very beginning she is being a bitch (from her own perspective). She goes to his drug dealers house to threaten him not to sell a little weed to a cancer patient. She stonewalls Walt for trying to decide for himself how to deal with a cancer diagnosis, and never gives him the grace to come to terms with his death sentence, instead making all his decisions for him and shaming him if he disagrees.

But from around episode 5 on, once he starts disappearing and giving her bullshit excuses, she’s justified. But many viewers still see her as being a bitch because that’s how the writers introduced her (and it’s a great plot device because it puts you more on Walt’s side until you finally realize he’s actually an evil piece of shit).

  25. Chronically_Ginge7 on

Good on Bryan Cranston for this statement. Skyler haters are a bit of a red flag for me. She wasnt perfect herself, but nobody is, but all her reactions to Walter’s lying and decisions were completely reasonable to me. She went through ALOT bc of him.

  26. I do appreciate Frankie just consistently giving me more reasons not to watch the reboot, though.
