REAL!!!!! Why are we still making room for colourism in this day and age.

    Also justice for samira mohan

“Kamwali” means maid or servant. In a highly classist and castist society this is is insulting.

  3. translation in case u miss the gravity of this crass statement, “kaam wali bai” is (derogatively) being referred to househelp/maids who are usually from underprivileged and socioeconomically poor backgrounds

Each of them coming in hot with more magnetic screen presence and beauty than the other.

They all look so different though?

Also I looked up ‘kamwali bai’.. what an extremely fucked up thing to continue to put up into the world.

Kamwali bai means house maid in Hindi. All the actors here are of Tamil ethnicity. ( Geraldine is half but I doubt they know that ). So they are being both racist and classist.

  7. The brown skinned girls here are finally finally finally getting representation after being pushed away for generations and these ppl are now again calling us “maids” and ugly so that we don’t rise up against the rampant colorism and classism against us… and these women are not even the darkest… indians are so un empathetic and cruel towards their own skintone and I say this as an Indian.. i grew up abroad so I did not know much of this but whenever I went back home to visit or watched my language films I could see how we were pushed aside and never given space in films or worse done brownface to represent us. For example , here is a poster of a Tamil princess, the princess irl was brown but the casting was a paper white princess and worse, brown girls around her to uplift her

And now finally we get representation in media and these accounts run amok calling us ugly/mid

In case anyone doesn’t know, “Kam wali bai” is essentially a maid. Such a horrible and sad and shitty take all around. Good for them for calling it out.

Is the original tweet claiming the castings are colourist and show only a narrow section of Indians?

What actually is this discussion? Can any actual Indian people speak on their perspective

Since what needs to be said has already been said in this thread so I won’t repeat those points.

“phenotype” — what a crass weaponisation of scientific term used to study genetics in biology. These colorists think borrowing multi-syllable words from science makes their arguments hold more water. Leave science out of your bigotry.
