  1. Even though things have improved, it still takes real courage to come out as HIV positive today, especially with how brutal the internet can be (the HR « fandom » is a huge example) Tierney and his family are from my neighbourhood, and they’re genuinely good people. His dad actually wrote one of my favourite films, Bon Cop Bad Cop. Always love seeing Montrealers on the world stage.

Oh my gosh, this poor man has been through it. The undiagnosed diabetes part is so frustratingly relatable – as long as you have one medical situation going on, everything gets pinned on that and you end up suffering before the possibility of it being unrelated gets floated. Thank goodness both his conditions are treatable and he can live a healthy, normal life đŸ©·

I met him very recently. Very kind guy. At least the time I was with him he took photos with literally everyone who wanted one even when it was clearly inconvenient

Knowing this “fandom” I’m very worried where this bit of info is going to go and how it’s going to be used.
Watching the response to HR over the past months I’ve been reminded that straight people simply do not have the same frame of reference for queerlife that actual lgbtq+ people do and Jacob even kinda touched on it in this pod, where he mentions the differences in hookup culture and the pearl clutching of his straight friends about it. HIV though is a different beast in the public discourse and I hope those lucky enough to not have to live with in directly or indirectly can check themselves and behave.

What is this from? It cuts off at the end and I’d like to hear the rest

Edit: Thank you for the links! I’m a fan from his Letterkenny days so I’ll be adding it to my list of interviews to catch up on

Would recommend the full interview too, Jacob is truly a wonderful director/boss.

Why is the interviewer sitting like that and in those clothes… was he not expecting to be doing this today?

I am so glad he is doing well after all this! What a loss in so many ways if he didn’t defeat these two illnesses. I say Baruch Hashem for this wonderful man!

One of my closest friends, practically my brother, passed away last October from stage three HIV (AIDS). He apparently knew for several years before his death, but told no one other than his husband – who also told no one.

It’s been a heavy, complicated grieving process, as I’m sure most are, but this is unique since it feels like half illness-related and half suicide-adjacent. I miss him so much every day.

How uncomfortable to put your own personal/private health out there to help create a platform for discussion and awareness. This is so amazingly brave ❀

I didn’t know Jacob Tierney before Heated Rivalry and I’ve enjoyed listening to his interviews and watching some of his other shows for the last few months. He’s obviously insanely intelligent and witty. He’s created something that’s given joy to millions of people, big big love for Jacob.

Don’t know anything about him or the show but I love people who are brave enough to share and help reduce stigma 💙
