i feel like people have been saying this for like five years straight
i remember the “what is grief if not love perservering” line from Wandavision being people’s go-to example
“hopecore” “vibe shift”

Project hail mary was incredible
Real life is too depressing and only getting worse. We do need some media that’s uplifting and able to strike real wonder in people of all ages.
Superman (2025) was the start of hopecore for me. But yes Project Hail Mary was uplifting as well.
“Hope core” = “I’m 12 and IP Sci-fi is the only way I can engage with art.”
I like the movie. Hope and positive is better entertainment than dark and depressing. At least for me.
Lol@ hopecore but also: I’m currently watching the LOTR trilogy for the 877899 time. I feel…seen? 🫠
I feel like Hollywood pushes this vibe like clockwork at every economic downturn though. Haven’t confirmed but if memory serves they’re just doing more of the same.
Loved ‘Project Hail Mary’ and started listening to the audiobook before bed. Very worthwhile if you’re into audiobooks. There’s more background to the story and the narrator is very good!
I hope we’re moving past gritty adaptations of things, and it seems so, but it’s not like we haven’t had uplifting movies this whole time.
I just find it funny how everyone rushes to declare what Project Hail Mary’s box office success means. I’m not surprised it was successful. It’s an extremely popular book, and people love Ryan Gosling. It’s not that complicated.

“Hopecore” ? What is this supposed to distract us from the fascism that is overtaking the US? Not here for it. Don’t piss on me and tell me it’s raining.
I keep hearing this and I fully support hopeful media however the people have spoken and they consistently love watching content that is dark, heavy and gritty in tone
The Pitt, The Bear, Severance and Succession are just a few shows I can name offhand that I haven’t watched but I’ve heard are very engaging shows make viewers feel anxious and feeling emotionally heavy
Nah. Hollywood’s dead. Affordability, current events, lack of monoculture, and social media have made it much harder to enjoy movies.
Oh bummer
Gritty? Maybe? I feel like superhero movies, avatar and such has been the biggest movies the last decade. Not exactly what I would call gritty
I like this movie.
The main thing is people crave new stories (adapted from books is fine). We are over saturated with nostalgia and sequels. Give us original media.
