i don’t think charli cares about chasing money, and she wouldn’t have chosen rock music as her next venture most of all if that was the case. she’s always been open to experimenting with her sound and production which is her strongest suit as an artist. this tribalist gatekeeping mentality is weird as hell.

You’d expect better from someone who was constantly accused of being a poser by the black metal scene due to her past as a fashion model…

lol sorry, this is weird af. what part of charli’s interview made her think that charli’s “rebrand” (if we wanna call it that) is corporate? sounds like it’s just due to the fact that she’s a mainstream artist now, coming off of her brat era, because what else would make her think this?

also, of course it’s “corporate” to an extent because she’s signed to a record label just like any other recording musician. obviously her music will need to sell. doesn’t mean her going the rock direction is fake or contrived.

i just find it super weird that amalie is taking issue with this, seems super random.

Rock isn’t a major cash cow genre right now. If she was doing a cynical rebrand it would be something like country.

  5. well to this person i say there’s a whole article beyond a pitchfork headline that charli didn’t write (just a small quote taken out of context of a british vogue interview) that would give you some idea of what charli is thinking about this pivot. reacting to headlines i mean c’mon.

i have no comment about the sky ferreira thing. i don’t know nearly enough about how music credits work.

Charli did have a live band (of all women by the way) when she toured Sucker, which was the last time she dabbled in guitar driven music.

And I know this because I went to that tour and saw her live in 2015.

She also founded and mentored the band Nasty Cherry.

This guy should do his research before making such grand statements.

  7. If she was chasing money she wouldn’t have put out 2 full length mixtapes and a self titled album full of features from artists that had less than 500k monthly listeners. I feel like brat melted everyones brains.

  8. What a rock fan thing to do, get mad your genre doesnt get the love it deserves, get mad when artists start performing that genre.

Literally cant win with rock/metal fans, if you have even the slightest unheaviness too youre ostracized
