Because of 2 recent high profile allegations of sexual misconduct by house reps Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales, the House Ethics Committee has released a list of 28 members of congress who have been investigated over claims of sexual misconduct.
A few things that stood out to me from the article:
First one is this Quote:
> Moreover, unfortunately, there likely exist matters never reported to the Committee
I’m glad they at least acknowledged the fact that there were likely many other cases out there. I could not imagine being a victim in a situation like this. It has got to be absolutely *terrifying* to file a report against such a high-profile individual.
Second thing that stood out:
The list stops at 1976. Does this mean that they never investigated claims of misconduct back then? Because there’s no way in hell that other reps weren’t accused of sexual misconduct prior to the mid 70’s.
Third thing that stood out:
I was kind of shocked at how small the list is considering it spans 5+ decades, but what surprised me more was seeing how the list was kind of evenly split down party lines. Having said that, I don’t give a fuck what party you when misconduct is involved, *especially* sexual misconduct. At the bare minimum you need to be kicked out of office, and in an ideal world you would be charged criminally should your level of misconduct be considered a crime.

It’s under a paywall. Can someone share the names!!?
Blake farenthold, the man in the ducky pajamas. I haven’t heard that name in years…
It stands out how it went from found and publicized and loss of jurisdiction to… nothing.
JFC. Let’s just remove them ALL and start over!
I am only shocked that the number is so low over a 50 year time span.
Ohhhh goodness here we go
….was anthony wiener not investigated?
wait American lawmakers? that doesnt sound right
in case anyone else was curious I added party, state, district for the ones from 2014 on. please feel free to finish it. yes, Alcee Hastings was investigated twice

I live in NV and Ruben Kihuen was a known sleaze and abuser in the Legislature. Then he won a seat in Congress…
Our lawmakers are the worst lawbreakers.
They make the rules that the rest of us have to follow.
Alcee Hastings – twice? Interesting.
Good. Now take care of the problem at 1600 Pennsylvania while you’re at it.
American Lawmakers = do as I say and not as I do! Who’s surprised? I’m not 🥴 Burn it all to the ground
Only 28?
Does anyone else imagine these things have been used as blackmail and they’re being exposed now because they didn’t vote the way a certain someone wanted them to?
