I heard of a nursing home community that is like a little town for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s. The nurses dress in their regular clothes. It’s treated as if it’s a normal town so the patients feel normal as possible. They can “shop” but still have nurses around in case they need help or to chat so they can feel a sense of normalcy. I wish all homes were like this. Elderly deserve to still feel human.
When I worked in an assisted living as the head chef, I loved having my assistants. They were so lovely, I never expected them to help, and it gave them purpose and routine to help me. I loved it.
I've never seen the movie but based on the clips it doesn't seem like the main lady has dementia or Alzheimer's but rather she's just old and needs the medical assistance but doesn't wanna be seen like the lady that had a chip clip in her hair so she tries to help and keep some of her independence. Movie might be completely different this is just what I got from the short out of context clips
Why don’t they just hire her part time?❤ Sometimes it’s healthier to allow the patient to give back and allow the care giver to be the patient. It heals the heart❤
I spent several years working with the elderly and geriatric residents in a nursing home — it takes a special mindset to work with them and help them retain as much independence as possible while affording them the respect that their dignity and life deserve. Everyone has a story. They have memories, knowledge, skills, and often more humor and wisdom than we realize.
It is great to give old folks a purpose whether it is holding the baby, walking a dog or cooking eggs. Being at a dead end nursing home looks like a nightmare.
My Oma is currently in the final stage of dementia, this made me miss her even more and she's not even gone yet. Never forget these people were once hard working people, mother's, father's, grandparents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, best friend, teacher, doctor, carpenter, veteran, etc, etc, and sometimes their brain reverts back to when they were younger, pre-parenthood, pre-marriage, pre-immigration, sometimes flashbacks of war of violence. My Oma denied it was her birthday last week, she took the card my Mom gave her and it said "Mom" on the front, and my Oma just put it down on the table, my sister asked if she was going to open it, my Oma replied "no, because that's for Mom, I'm not Mom, my name is Jane" my Mom replied "but you're my Mom and I love you" my Oma was silent and confused.
It's truly an awful, horrible disease. We must always remember to be kind, we never know what someone else is dealing with in that moment, sometimes all someone needs is a kind word, or even for someone to ask "are you okay?". 💜
This is actually what most older people need when living in a assisted living home they need purpose a small job where they can be busy and feel needed there's a lot of old people who are truly depressed in these poorly kept nursing homes cuz they have nothing to do and no one comes to visit them and they spent 60/80 years of their lives being important and needed to now being infantilized
My grandmother had Alzheimer's passed last year and my grandfather looked after her for 17 years but in the final year my mum had to take over as the nursing home we did try when my grandfather couldn’t do it anymore was really terrible so we took her out and took responsibility for her final year. She was in that nursing home for under a month before we realised the mistreatment and I'm glad we took her out even if it was hard for us. She lasted 18 years fighting it one of the longest survived cases I can find and never once do we wish we weren't there the whole time. Almost 18 years around family and 1 bad month in a terrible home I say we did the best we could.
I'm sorry but I'll always love a person humble enough to be getting chewed out and have someone else defend them and they say no there right I deserve this correction
My grandma thought she was shopping at the local Millers or Aldi, she was actually stealing from her roommates and next door neighbors in the nursing home😂I miss ya grandma
I work at a care facility. This happens to certain residents all the time. It’s hard to work around their confusion at first but getting them on a routine and learning how they respond to certain words and tasks is how you get them to work with you on helping them get better, or at least make their stay comfortable. Very stressful and draining but also extremely rewarding
I'm a nurse and my DREAM is, when im old and pleasantly demented and in a nursing home, is for the overwhelmed nurse to get desperate enough to let me help out 😅 like "FINE, Katie! Hand these pills to Joanne over there and make sure she swallows them while i do this trach care" or "Katie i literally cant find anybody else, can i get you for a boost?" 😂😂😂 Thats all i want. I can die happily after that

What show is this from?
This is fucking sad.
I did “rounds” with a resident in senior living. She was a former nurse. Always make them feel seen and valued!
It's not running away. Seniors are adults. They should be able to leave whenever they want to.
If I get super old I hope to still be able to feed people I love 💗
Aunt May back at it
