  1. Why do men say this shit. According to the resources minister Shane Jones

“The scale of mining in New Zealand is minuscule,” Jones claimed. “It’s akin to a beauty spot on the face of an attractive woman.

Having backpacked on the South island over a decade a go the natural beauty around there is really hard to overstate. Disgusting that you anyone would attack someone over their public opposition to what will likely be an environmental disaster.

As someone who lives in this area we need the jobs desperately. There’s been redundancies after redundancies and people are struggling. I get his perspective but its difficult for the community to hear it from an hollywood outsider who has millions when people just want to work and support their family.

I love Sam, but when people are broke a/f and there’s the potential to earn some money and it’s being opposed, it’s not surprising that people would get pissed off about it.

Nobody wants mining, near them. Everyone wants the goods produced from those mines. Guess the left and right will never get bored of complaining in the end.

I don’t know much about this proposed gold mine other than what Sam Neill shared here. But I have been to Central Otago, the area he is referring to and where he has his winery, and it is truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve been on this planet. I hope they are able to stop the mine!

  6. His real accent is so much posher than his accent in the movies I’ve seen him in. (This is not a criticism, just an observation.)

The local mine supporters Facebook page is full of vile crap & constant ad hominem attacks. What they say about Sam (or anyone) that opposes the mine is disgusting. They are completely void of the ability to have constructive debate. Massive respect for what Sam does and is doing in his community, it shouldn’t come at this personal cost.

  8. # its Sam Neill’s property he has every right to speak up about something affecting him ! those who throw abuse don’t use facts! stay Strong Sam Neil !

” They’re noisy, they’re messy, they’re expensive. They smell. Some of them smell!”

This is all on the shoulders of Resource Minister Shane Jones. A colossal waste of space and inebriate mouth breather who wants to rape New Zealand’s ecosystems and destroy our environment for profit that does not benefit the NZ taxpayer. I am so behind Mr. Neill’s message and I hope he stays safe.

  11. Shane Jones is a moron.

If this project goes ahead, and it ends up polluting the environment, he will just shrug his shoulders, say “shit happens” and move onto the next thing that can exploit our resources. And you can just about guarantee Santana Minerals will have some clause in their contract to get out of any clean up costs.

These deals never turn into the massive tax windfalls that the government tells us they will be; they will find crafty ways to offshore as much of the profits as possible.

  12. Crazy. I don’t recognize him in the slightest. I know people age but I just don’t see him in there at all
