marilyn monroe’s blonde hair

  1. Monroe was an icon but she wasn’t the first nor was she the last. If you look up Jayne Mansfield, Mae West, Brigette Bardot & Jean Harlow you’ll find that all of these women were iconic for their “blonde-ness” and many of them weren’t even natural blondes.

My granny was an old school hairdresser & used to be obsessed with these women but she would never dye her hair blonde b/c the processes back then were often detrimental to your health and the health of your hair!

  2. Interesting perspective on hair. I noticed this prevalence of blondes in movies too. Dr. Yaba Blay talks about this extensively for how hair and beauty ideals impact Black women. Both my professor and I (both Black women) were also compelled to write about this as well. Great video!

  3. Just saw a post about how blonde women are placed as cinematic romantic leads with an ‘ugly’ brunette best friend who is actually just as pretty.

  4. Im a natural blonde, every day of my life have been, still at 24 am. I havent really had the guts to dye my hair, but I do get infantalized… I do get attention, but its this weird objectifying dehumanizing infantalizinh attention, idk I guess thats every womans experience, but I just feel like I'm always seen as the younger dumber softer one, someone easy, even though I'm a university student and have done well in my studies and im asexual and aromantic. I feel like my hair color plays a part with my highpitched voice and shortness… idk I dress more masc these days cause when I dress fem even though I'd like to dress like that, the world still sees me as something I'm not. Obviously I'm privalaged, but I think its an interesting perspective, cause usually people have blond hair by choice (its more common to have it dyed blond, cause even in north europe hair turns darker when people grow older and they start highlighting their hair to keep the hair they used to have). I guess I'm still trying to figure out how to dress in a way thats me, but also reflects the real me to a misogynistic male gazy society… I dont wanna dye my hair, but I am excited to have my hair darken :')
