genuinely what would it take for this to happen in the US
myghostflower on
okay but does this also impact third party sites and resellers? or is it JUST on ticketmaster? because if it’s the latter than this does absolutely nothing
Let it be known this was already introduced in 2018 before Doug Ford, Ontario’s current premier, scrapped it. He’s reintroducing it right now because he’s trying to get the press off his back for some shady access to information stuff he’s doing and also buying a private jet worth 30 million dollars.

It should be done at the federal level, honestly.

GOOD. As it should be. I hope the rest of Canada follows suit, concerts have become a luxury here in BC

US would never. Too much money to be made by politicians to keep this as is.

Itās so easy to do. Payment and Transfers can only happen in the app for the venue. Period

Doug Ford is a good for nothing son of a bitch. Do not give him this win after spending 29 million on a private jet by cutting the future of our fucking country (osap).

That’s a good start not make that tiered pricing model illegal too.
Edit: dynamic pricing not tiered

Doug Ford is a corrupt scumbag, but even those do something right on occasion.

While I don’t believe in price caps, I certainly don’t believe in monopolies and ticket scalping. If we’re not gonna break up the monopoly then might as well price cap.

Yes!! This is what needs to happen! Sell for face value. Or Ticketmaster allows returns, you get your $$ back and then they sell for face value

I bought tickets months ago to a show in LA for $40. I told my friends to buy theirs ASAP or they will go up because of resellers.
The show is a month away now and those same tickets are $200 each.

We need this in the states because the TM resell fees alone for selling tickets they already sold is absolutely insane.
samspopguy on
So if you have to resale a ticket will the fees only be tacked onto the buyer. Or if something comes up and you have to sell tickets you will take a hit on the fees?
NewtRipley_1986 on
Yo Mark Carney we need to make this a federal law (and stronger) not just a provincial one.

Its ok. Ticketmaster is the original holder so their original price of 1200 dollars for a mid level seat is ok because that is what the market has decided (dynamic pricing or different phrasing)
Now dont worry they’ll discount it 50% but when its resold thru them later the 50% discount wont apply so it’ll be back to 1200.
Look i know a lot of this seems great but they do crazy bullshit in the US. And illinois and one other state allow the consumer to be direct resellers.Ā And as someone who goes to a lot of concerts ,Ā chicago is the best place to get tickets good seats at reasonable prices. The more regulations they put on reselling the more ticketmaster charges.Ā
Another example. I bought tix for a show in Vegas where the band set the rules that nothing was over ticket price. They had to be sold at face value.(pretty sure ticketmaster said the last part because….)
I had to cancel and went to sell my tickets. I couldnt sell them for more, and couldnt sell them for less. But ticket master had no problem with either. So they sold tickets around me for twice as much the first few weeks. Then when demand died down they were my face value price.Ā when I went to sell them to could tell who was club members because they were all 2s and 4s of seats at full price and ticketmaster was entire rows of seats at about 1/4 cost, no fees promoted all sorts of things. Me and about 4 other pple i knowĀ all didnt sell and got screwed.Ā
This law in Canada is not going to hurt ticketmaster

this story does force you conculde that Ticketmaster is not the only problem.
Governmetns have to drag them kicking and screaming to do it, but if its only 1 Province (or state I guess) doing it, that is the only place Ticketmaster applies the law.
Firms like Ticketmaster get away with it, because Governments allow it.
Fit-Horse5306 on
Are they going to stop pretending they donāt own stubhub and stop the scam of buying tickets from themselves and reselling at higher prices on their āother siteā?
fakehighschoolgf on
Great, now let’s prevent Ticketmaster from scalping their own tickets via surge pricing too.
