Today in 2006, Nelly Furtado blessed us with “Promiscuous” featuring Timbaland. The song was a worldwide hit.

    1. I don’t think people realize how massive of a change this was from the “I’m like a Bird” hippie-esque girl to this. It was like a different person

Timbaland perfected pop in 2006 with Loose and FutureSex/LoveSounds and no one can tell me otherwise

    3. I remember thinking what a huge tonal shift this was from her first album. She pulled it off.

    4. THE LOWRISE JEANS AND THE BELT.

I fuckin loved the summer of 2006, we had incredible bangers that year.

    5. She is such a good artist. I can’t believe how much body shaming she’s gotten recently. Ppl need to really look at themselves in the mirror before they be bullying someone.

    6. 10 year old me loved this song so much. It was the first CD I owned

This is my “someone holds a gun to your head and will shoot unless you can sing 100% correctly” song answer.

And just like that, I’m back dancing on a booth at Jet Nightclub in the Mirage

    9. On the advice of my mother, my grandmother bought Me the “Now this is music” CD that had this on it for Christmas when I was like 11 and she pulled my mom aside as she was “very concerned” about the promiscuous track 😂

I asked my dad to download this song from iTunes to put on my iPod and he made me look up what promiscuous meant in the dictionary and said no 😂

“I want you on my team.”
“So does everybody else.” Made me who I am today.

I had Promiscuous memorized at 7 years old (not really understanding the lyrics). Because every time I went to the mall with my parents, the speakers had this song on blast. Hearing it as an adult now, I jokingly call it “The Mall Anthem of ‘06.”

This song was always the main song in the mix when I was in the club back then, I had a love hate relationship ship with it as my crush was always hooking up with Randos and this song was mirroring that! – promiscuous girls- his favorite s

Can’t believe I was only 12 when this came out. I “sang” to this without knowing what it meant AT ALL (I’m not from an English speaking country)

15 year old me did a lot of growing up to this banger. While simultaneously not having a clue what promiscuous meant.

    16. Thank you, Ms. Furtado for giving us this and Maneater.

I really cleaned up on Tinder when I was a haux, and I always had one of those two songs on my profile. I’ve always told people I want Maneater to be played at my funeral, maybe I need to add Promiscuous to the list as well (I want my funeral to be a giant party)

She is beyond gorgeous. She was pretty freshly post partum here I believe she said in an interview which is mind blowing lol

Thank you for writing 2006 instead of “20 years ago.” Doing the mental math somehow helps me prepare to feel old.

    19. She’s an incredible song writer. Deeply heartfelt. Her recent NPR Tiny Desk is lovely. I’m glad she’s still around.

Ha, as a dude in my 40s that is pretty much only into metal, industrial and grunge, I always loved Nelly Furtado’s songs.
