I didn’t realize that James Gunn got his start at Troma.

Good. Let the villain be a villain. He can be sympathetic, of course, but one of the main reasons the Sony spider-villain movies failed was that they tried to make them into badass anti-heroes or just straight up heroes.

That’s all I needed to know. I will be seeing this in a theater anticipating a horror film

If it’s not a hybrid don’t piggy back on DC fame for your “horror movie”.

And that teaser was creepy as fuck.

I am really interested in how DC is building a credible Batman-less universe of Batman villains.

I like that DC (unlike marvel) is happy to lean into the darker aspects of their characters. It’s much more entertaining than what at this point just amounts to corny and predictable superhero movies from marvel most of the time. There’s a reason the dark knight is so revered

DC really out here doin the lamest stuff possible

This shows to me that Gunn understands DC. In the comics, the more “mature”, often horror, Vertigo properties shared a universe with Batman and Superman. Swamp Thing. Constantine. Sandman. And Batman’s rogue’s gallery is full of horror monsters. It’s Gods *and* Monsters.

But when Batman?

I’m sick of Batman movies with no Batman.

Isn’t Clayface already dead in James Gunn’s new DCU?

I mean, the teaser didnt remind me of a horror movie. Ill watch it due to it being different, but they could have had better luck of a horror movie with Victor Szasz or hell, even a horror version of Scarecrow.

They compared it to Death Becomes Her and then call it a horror? Did they see Death Becomes Her?

Wait. Didn’t they want to move away from dark?

As a fan of superhero films and a hater of horror, I appreciate the transparency.
I’ll sit this out.

I’m getting really sick of seeing stuff about this already. I’ve seen it spammed so much all over the place that I am legitimately hoping it bombs.

Sounds good, I’m kinda tired about how generic a lot of superhero movies are. Comics have been in a diversity of genres for … Basically as long as they have existed, but for some reason our movies lag behind and are kinda stuck in a very formulaic groove. Sometimes they get close, like ant man was almost a heist movie. I hope this is a sign that comic book movie adaptations are finally maturing as a medium. I would love to see adaptations of more mature subject matter, like an eternity girl miniseries.
