Aubrey Plaza’s upcoming drama The Accompanist, the directorial debut from The Office US, Silicon Valley and Veep actor Zach Woods, has just received a big update along with first-look pictures.

As well as Plaza, the cast also includes Susan Sarandon, the legendary star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Witches of Eastwick, Friends and Malcolm in the Middle.

The film will be making its worldwide premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, with screenings on Thursday 4 June, Friday 5 June, and Sunday 7 June.

The plot follows a nine-year-old girl named Emily (Everly Carganilla), who is visited by child welfare after accidentally revealing that her dementia-stricken grandfather almost got her killed.

Welfare agent Sarah (Plaza) separates the duo and places Emily in the care of foster parent Sylvia (Sarandon).

Sylvia is described as “mysterious, witchy, funny, and unpredictable,” warm but also haunted by the ghosts of her past.

The two begin to form a strong bond, but they “must decide how much they are willing to risk” if they want to carry on (via Deadline).

“Life can feel so lonely sometimes”, Woods said when describing his film. “I think it’s worth telling stories about how scary, funny, and glorious it is when we’re brave enough to try to find our way to each other in the dark.”

Michael Sagol, managing director at production company Caviar, added: “Zach is both irrepressibly creative and irrepressibly funny.

“After seeing both of his short films we were floored by how well-crafted and moving the stories were, which led to us inquiring about what he was turning his attention to next – an amazing personal script called The Accompanist. We’re so proud to be bringing Zach’s first feature to life together.”

David Garrett from film sales company Mister Smith Entertainment further stated that the script has a “unique” voice.

The Accompanist will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.
