The story of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle has been of much public interest, especially considering the alleged distance between the two as of late. But while discussing his book about the Sussexes, Tom Bower, a royal biographer, has added another perspective to that narrative. He claimed that Middleton did not just struggle with Markle’s arrival; she felt “threatened” by it.
Royal biographer claims Kate Middleton was ‘threatened’ by Meghan Markle
During a Daily Express “Daily Expresso” interview, host JJ Anisiobi asked why Kate Middleton saw Meghan Markle “as a threat.” Tom Bower explained, “Because I think that Meghan has a lot of qualities which Katherine or Kate doesn’t have.” He then listed what he described as Markle’s strengths, including “she’s self-made,” “well educated,” and “ambitious.” He claimed that Markle has “worked hard.” Moreover, he said that “she’s achieved on her own terms quite a bit, although not on global terms.”
Bower further argued, “I think that she has a ruthlessness which threatened Katherine or Kate.” The royal biographer added, “I think that she wasn’t going to put up with curtsying to the future queen.” All in all, Bower believed that the Duchess of Sussex “wasn’t going to fit in with their lifestyle.”
Bower went on to claim, “Kate could see quite immediately that Meghan was furious that they were living in a small house in Kensington Palace,” comparing it to what he called the “sumptuous 20 rooms” that Prince William and Middleton used at the time.
Furthermore, the royal biographer suggested that Markle’s sense of fashion was part of the pressure. He explained, “Meghan had great style. She had clothing style. She had appearance style, which Kate didn’t have,” and claimed that Middleton then “quickly employed experts to change her appearance.”
Besides, Bower suggested, “I think the biggest threat of all was that Meghan thought that she should be the future queen and… that really meant a lot to Kate that there was this rival across the corridor who wasn’t going to be content with being lower in the pecking order.”
Whatever the feelings were between Middleton and Markle at the time, Bower’s comments show how this alleged rivalry still remains in the headlines.
