Dracula built the hotel for one reason and her name is Mavis. Everything inside those castle walls, every monster guest, every carefully maintained rule about humans, every centuries old routine was constructed around keeping his daughter safe from a world he decided a long time ago could not be trusted with her. Keanu Reeves plays Dracula, carrying the particular exhaustion of a father who has been saying no for a hundred and eighteen years and genuinely believes he is doing the right thing, cool and composed right up until everything he planned starts falling apart. Emma Stone plays Mavis, curious and alive in ways the hotel cannot fully contain, standing at the edge of everything her father built and feeling the pull of something beyond it. Tom Holland plays Johnny, a backpacking human who stumbles into Hotel Transylvania completely by accident and immediately becomes the single most inconvenient thing that has ever walked through those doors. The zing does not ask for permission. It does not check whether the timing is good or whether the father watching from across the room is the most powerful vampire alive. It just happens. And Dracula has to decide whether the walls he built out of love are the same thing as love at all.

Eight to ten hours getting the tone right between genuine warmth and comedy and the emotional weight underneath it. Went through the source material carefully to make sure every character beat landed where it should. Multiple tools, multiple passes. This cast was built for this story.
