There’s nothing fishy about canceling a tv show that was losing millions per episode with declining viewership in the age of streaming

  2. There used to be just the Johnny Carson show and it focused on celebrities. Then it was the Leno/Letterman era and it focused on celebrities. Then Fallon took over and he focused on celebrities. Colbert/Kimmel joined in and they’re half “late-night CNN”…just an idea, but maybe the late night field should go back to celebrities and their content?

  3. It was for hostile political reasons. Colbert’s firing was 100% a hit job to please the fuhrer. Shame on David Ellison.

  4. Honestly if he’s that beloved he should just get a podcast going right away and make more money that way, like field of dreams build it and they will come (if they really care).

It was losing 10s of millions a year with a dwindling viewerbase. It is what is, no one watches late night like 20+ years ago

Honestly, glad to have him free to work on a different project… but the dozens of staff are now out of a job… hope they land well

  7. I hope he resurrects the Colbert Report. We need that character’s voice now more than ever.

lol. The show loses a ton of money and no one watches it. Late night tv is completely irrelevant now.

Paramount made the mistake of thinking they could make a popular and talented comedian go away by taking him off over the air broadcast television…while in reality, it will likely just make him even more popular and visible in the long run if he plays his cards right (see Conan). I’m sure his staff will follow him wherever he goes.
