I have empathy for people with substance abuse issues, but we absolutely need to hold them accountable when they endanger others.

I just want the best for her. Would be so pleased if she could be happy, healthy and stable.
But DUIs are serious. She’s lucky she’s not killed anyone.

this is not britney-specific nor i have any desire to criticize someone else’s mental health, but:
– DUIs should be considered manslaughter attempts
– anyone who was caught on one should never be allowed a license again
yes, i know rich people could bribe their way out, I don’t have a solution to that problem, but imho DUIs are never justifiable in any way and poor regular people who drive inebriated should lose access to cars, because yeah, it sucks that cars are needed, but also you should have thought of that before you almost killed someone

It needed to happen, and it’s best that it did before she seriously harmed or killed another person (or herself) while under the influence. A car in the hands of someone impaired is a weapon.

I just hope that people realize she can be an addict, be mentally ill, and NOT need to be under conservatorship

Fuck absolutely everyone who drives drunk, it’s truly unforgivable. My husband’s best friend was killed when he was 23, a drunk woman ran into him when he was standing by his broken down car at the side of the road. She served one year in prison. One fucking year. I always say if you want to kill someone do it with a car because there’ll be little to no consequences

I feel for Britney because she’s had a rough time but I never understand why rich people drive drunk. Can she not afford a car service or a personal driver?
If I were a rich celebrity in LA I wouldn’t drive myself anywhere ever. I’d hire a personal driver before I hired a personal chef.

Britney Spears wondering if anything she says can be used against her in a court of law:
“Would you hold it against me?”

She was absolutely taken advantage of by her family in that conservatorship. But I’ve always side eyed people who said she was completely fine and just being trapped by her family. There’s some middle ground because she clearly is not okay and really hasn’t been since she got out. She’s free, and is using her freedom to put innocent people in danger. Maybe prison is where she needs to be then

Sad, very sad.She needs help.

One: driving while intoxicated should be an automatic suspension or cancellation of one’s licence and confiscation of vehicles. It’s one of the few crimes that would immediately end a friendship/relationship/marriage for me, up there with sex offences.
Two: Someone driving drunk, having substance abuse issues, being mentally ill, etc. does not inherently mean they need to be under a conservatorship. Her screwups are no worse than any other unstable celeb (and better than some), and saying she deserves to have her life controlled to that extent because of them is a total double standard. When are we going to take away Justin Timberlake’s freedom? Ezra Miller is still free to do…whatever the hell they’re doing. Shia LaBeouf is out here terrorising women and the city of New Orleans. Britney deserves to face justice for the DUI. That is very different from deserving to be put back into her conservatorship.

Did anyone read the article? She is NOT going to end up with a DUI charge. The prosecution is offering a “reckless driving with drugs/alcohol” guilty plea to avoid the DUI charge going to court.
