Natalie Portman Actually Shaved Her Head On Camera…

In V for Vendetta (2006), Natalie Portman’s head-shaving scene wasn’t faked with a bald cap or visual effects — she actually shaved her head on camera. Because it was real, they had one chance to get the shot right.

Portman agreed to the transformation because she wanted the emotional weight of the scene to be genuine. The vulnerability, the fear, the finality of the act — all of it had to feel real because it was. The camera captured her actual hair being shaved off in a single, unbroken take.

Director James McTeigue had to nail the blocking, lighting, and performance on the first try. There was no second attempt, no pickup shots, no safety net. Portman’s commitment gave them one shot, and they used it.

  1. I hope she was crying because someone told her it takes weeks to grow her hair back ,because every balding person would kill for a full hairdoe

  2. Do me a favour! If she wants to chop her own head off on camera that's her business. What is it with these people, they abuse themselves supposedly for 'art' and we're all supposed to be impressed. It's a form of self abuse for the purpose of self aggrandisement, nothing more. Stop being impressed by it. Have a good sneer instead!

  3. If they had screwed it up, they would have put Natalie in a wig, show them shortening her hair, then cut away as the shearing started. It is easier to shorten hair then do the Buzz Cut than it is to do the Buzz Cut with long hair.

  4. It makes me think about a lot of stuff.. This was public humiliation for her. Shaving the head seems to have a very real meaning, in many cultures. The 1% does strange things, lately we have definitely seen that. To think that certain people in Hollywood aren’t prone, susceptible or whatever to this, is naive.

  5. the hair is the womans beauty in my eyes i would not let either of my wives cut their hair and even divorced tnhey still wear their hair long and so do both of my daughters

  6. I shaved my own head during the covid pandemic because I couldn't get a professional haircut. I actually enjoyed having a buzzcut and would do it again. Having a buzzcut saves on shampoo, time, money and my head felt cooler in the hot summer.

  7. Quit using red letters aginst a black back background. Might as well be black letters.. And quit running info from the bottem of screen over the bottem of the story.. You good solid information but you wind up turning it into crap.
